The Making of the Film, 'Beyond the Pale'
annemariebolam11 October 2006
Making of featurettes can vary from informative & interesting to unimaginative and dull. "Beyond the Pale" A movie I never heard of with a cast I'd never Heard of was given to me as as a gift (possibly because of my Irish connection) so I had nothing to lose by giving it a glance, rather than invest 96 minutes on the feature I opted for the 20 minute featurette and ended up watching the movie immediately afterwards. So what can be said about the whole "Beyond the Pale, "Beyond the Pale A Look Back" experience? Well the movie itself, was O.K. very character driven, it only becomes apparent after you've seen the documentary that it was made on a very low budget, which explains a lot of the cinematic choices. In fairness to the filmmakers it's a remarkable accomplishment because the film looks every bit the real deal, IT'S only letdown is it's lack of a big name or two and a couple of dodgy Irish accents. The documentary isn't as polished as the film, in fact it looks like it was thrown in as an after thought in an effort to market the DVD. Having said that, I did find it interesting & informative and a little sad too! as some of the characters involved have since passed on, which makes the little documentary a fitting tribute and gets my thumbs up.
