Follow the Missing Radium
wes-connors4 January 2011
Specialist in skin and cancer doctor Charles Kent (as Samuel Rayner) takes a ship across the ocean to pick up some rare - and deadly if used incorrectly - radium. From the hospital, he takes pretty nurse Leah Beard (as Betty Watson) to take care of potential radium burns. She and Mr. Kent's doctor son Leo Delaney (as Robert Rayner) take care of the film's romance quotient. As you can guess from the title, the radium is stolen by international crook Gladden James (as Walter Mallet) and his gang.

Ironically, Mr. Delaney is called to help henchman Denton Vane (as Tom Crosson) battle radium blindness.

This three-reel crime melodrama is missing, presently. The "Vitagraph-Broadway Star feature" was directed by actor William Humphrey and received mixed notices. On the positive side, reviewer Tarleton Winchester, in "Motion Picture Magazine" (May 1915), wrote it, "after a brief introduction, plunges into a series of thrills which has no interruption thru its entire course. The acting could scarcely be improved. The work of Charles Kent, Leah Beard and Gladden James is responsible for the statement."

**** The Radium Thieves (2/28/15) William Humphrey ~ Charles Kent, Leo Delaney, Leah Beard, Gladden James
