Two screen Titans set the screen a light
augustverdehills28 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is a basic tale of robin hood /godfather like figures ,Fernando POE , JR and Ramon Revilla battling against the unsavoury elements in their respective towns.

Fernando Poe, JR as usual delivers the goods here playing to screen type a man battling for the underdog against the main ills of society doing so with ruthless determination , he punches and shoots his way from reel to reel . What separates this from other FPJ revenge melodramas is his screen pro to type is played against and with Ramon Revilla a rougher and louder take on the same type of role. He delivers his dialogue with such menace and fury which contrast well with POE Jr'S quieter and more internal approach to similar situations were as Revilla implodes instantly to devastating effect Fernando Poe 'JR anger builds up over time till it implodes on those unfortunate to cross him . The real gem in the film is when the two leads squire up against each other the two leads set the celluloid a light with the kind of screen presence you will not see from today's actors it is more reliant on there nuance's and well timed reactions then any showy acting technique . In comparing Al Pacino and Robert Deniro in heat look very staged and their performances too laboured . The premises of the film is the run of the mill FPJ starer from the eighties the two leads striking a blow for the thousands of Filipino's who were living in tough and perhaps unjust times . It is a shame that Ramon Revilla SNR and Fernando POE 'JR never acted together again since each has been forced by the others presence to up his game in the film . The music is used effectively conveying a sense of poignancy to the rampant violence ,

dark claustrophobic spaces and sultry location add to the suspense and tension . As an effective morality's play good guys versus bad it works well within it's simple premises .
