A source of pride for Louisville, Kentucky has been the revitalization of its downtown, featuring new high-rises, residential and retail centers. But it has also been a busy time for another downtown landmark: the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections Jail, which books about 45,000 men and women each year. Many of them have been through the process several times before, like one repeat offender who smuggles contraband into the jail. Also in this hour, an inmate becomes a marked man, after murdering a Louisville rap star, a prescription pill epidemic takes its toll on the jail, and drug use on the inside could keep another inmate from leaving. And jail officials are concerned about one inmate's growing influence.

On any given day, the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections Jail holds about 2300 men and women whose lives have reached a significant crossroads and whose futures are anything but certain. In this hour, a troubled young inmate, recently sentenced to prison, attempts to make a final impression on staff. Another inmate acts out in order to achieve a very different goal. A young woman who gave birth in the jail, watches her baby grow up without her. And an inmate with an arsenal of talent...faces 25 years to life.

In downtown Louisville, Kentucky, two adjoining buildings serve as the center of the county's criminal justice system. They house both the courts and the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections Jail. On any given day, about 2300 men and women are incarcerated here. Most have only been accused of crimes and are awaiting trial or the resolution of their cases. It can be a tense environment, as inmates and the officers who supervise them, know all too well. In this hour, the jail responds with force after an officer is assaulted and inmates attempt escape. An 18-year old shoots her father to death then finds a surrogate mother on the inside. Another inmate not normally known for trouble issues a vile threat. And two others provide a cautionary tale for fathers and sons everywhere.
