The Third Nail avoids tackiness.

Fine acting with an interesting storyline, this film had me guessing until the real culprit who murdered Trey's daughter is revealed towards the end.

What makes the film hold your interest is finding out about Trey's difficult upbringing and if that sheds any light on who killed his daughter.

I liked how heavy handed and suspicious the FBI were initially with Trey, and thankfully they wisen up soon enough.

I didn't like how clean-cut Trey and the other prisoners were. No stubble or ragged look etc made it less realistic.

Also the punishment metered out to the child murderer fell far, far too short of the fate he deserved. Great name for the film, the director really nailed it on the head there!.

Perhaps one message this film is trying to convey is that if you are sent to prison, it can mess your life up in many more ways than you could possibly imagine.

Heavily underrated

The father, innocently sentenced to life in prison for the murder of two girls, is released only to find himself in an even worse hell. His daughter is abducted and probably dead, and he sets out in search of justice that transcends the laws.

It has a score of 4.9 on IMDb, and no rating at all on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes ... I also can't find it anywhere on the net to watch it again. I saw it a long time ago, but the fact that it remained in my memory for so many years only confirms that the film does not deserve such underestimation. The movie is difficult and dark, so I can understand that many people don't like it, but as much as my memory serves me, it deserves

Emotionally riveting

A solid crime thriller / family drama. You care about the characters and their backstory. The impact of prison life is depicted in a powerful and realistic manner. Great performance by Chloe Grace Moretz when she was around 7 or so years old. Memorable visual storytelling. Recommended.
