good time radio makes good time video
popart-13 November 2006
after suffering through the Altman movie this was a breath of very fresh air....why in the world did director Robert Altman leave out a Lake Woebegon monologue while adding that whole business with a "real" Guy Noir. But less said about the creaky "plot" the better. It is hard to believe that Garrison Kellar who was credited as a co-writer actually wrote any of that lame dialog. Most of the humor wasn't funny. as for the well known faces which appeared in the Altman movie none of them had as much singing talent as the radio performers and their contrived "back story" was as interesting as yesterdays newspaper. I think most critics were much to generous in their reviews of this movie because of the respect they share for the body of his work....and it is just a shame that few people will see the movie of the actual 30th Anniversary show which was excellent.

Garrison Keillor is an American Treasure!
Sylviastel22 May 2014
Garrison Keillor should have more accolades like a Star for Radio on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; the Mark Twain Award for Comedy; the National Medal of the Arts; and of course, the Kennedy Center Honors. For the last forty years, Keillor has brought Prairie Home Companion to millions of listeners. The radio broadcast is at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota. This is family viewing. Keillor is the master if ceremonies and its fearless leader. Keillor is a proud Minnesotan who tells stories like a master without any vulgarity or profanity. Besides his storytelling, he sings. There are performers like Jearlyn Steele who is just wonderful and others. This is wholesome family entertainment. I wonder why they don't air it every Saturday night.
