Bobby Hill rides along with Pete Malloy!
Henry_Framus_Valentine17 February 2013
Fans of both Hill Street Blues and Adam-12 will get a kick out of seeing Mike Warren (Hill Street's Bobby Hill) as an enthusiastic rookie riding shotgun with Pete Malloy while Jim Reed is on an undercover caper. Ten years later, Warren, by then a seasoned cop, would ride shotgun with Charles Haid (as Andy Renko) for several seasons on Hill Street Blues.

This episode features Leslie Charleson, the "Pearl Drops" girl, as a strung-out pop singer being troubled by drug dealers. There is some real sexual tension between Charleson and McCord, though it's no spoiler to tell you that Reed keeps his hands to himself.

"The Princess and the Pig" is an exciting and suspenseful episode. Look for Bobby Troup in a sinister role.

Meet The Princess Of The Mind
StrictlyConfidential10 November 2020
Pop singer (and "one-hit-wonder") Kathy Royal is one drugged out and seriously delusional gal who is convinced that "they" are out to kill her because of what she knows.

When gallant Officer Reed arrives on the scene he takes on the role of being Kathy's psychological guardian. And, with that, Kathy becomes dependent on him (like he was gonna be her next fix of heroin).

Anyway - Reed goes undercover and (with the help of Kathy) does his best to smash a serious narcotics ring that is operating, big-time, within the city limits.

Strange episode

Warning: Spoilers
Was Adam 12 producers testing the waters for a spin off with this episode?

Reed and Malloy answer a call about an strung out female performer at a night club. The singer, Kathy, asks Reed to stay with her on the way to the hospital as they ride in the ambulance. Malloy stays behind. Reed goes undercover to try and bust the supplier who is also the nightclub manager who was there when Reed and Malloy took Kathy in. They justify letting Reed go undercover to talk to the club manager by saying he probably didn't see past Reed's uniform as it was mostly Malloy talking to him. You would think someone involved with drugs with notice a cops face.

Anyway, there was some weird sexual chemistry going on between Kathy and Jim. At her apartment as he tells her they won't be alone, he leans in as if he wants to kiss her, but of course he doesn't. This is after she asks him if he's married and she says they would make an odd couple, anyway.

Malloy saved the day which is great since he was so sad that his partner wasn't with him while uncover and Malloy was told by Mac that he couldn't get involved.

Hilariously bad

Reed thinks putting a toothpick in his mouth will make him look like a genuine drug dealer lol. Every time he put that damn toothpick in his mouth trying to look all tough made me burst with laughter. There's just no way anyone would buy this clean cut guy as someone selling million dollar drugs.

And I concur with the other reviewer here about the weird behavior between Reed and the junkie princess. Reed acted more like a boyfriend to her rather than a cop and at one point it really did look like he was reaching to embrace and kiss her in her apartment.

I guess it's fitting that this episode was about drugs because you wonder if the writers were all high when they wrote it.

Hot cop can't act
netflixnkill21 August 2022
Just started watching Adam-12 recently on Freevee, 4 seasons in and it's a pretty decent 70's cop show that I enjoy. My only complaint is the guy who plays Reed he has no personality whatsoever.

His inability to emote was kinda funny... even cute at first, but that wears off after awhile becoming just annoying because he doesn't seem to get any better as the show goes on. Welp with pretty privilege, white privilege all working at full force who needs to improve at your job I guess? The guy playing Pete does all the work and heavy lifting acting wise, he's great.

Here in this episode Reed goes undercover, basically playing the same monotone character but in street clothes. Even when he got kidnapped a couple episodes back there was no change in demeanor, nothing! Lucky for him he's still nice to look at so he isn't completely useless. Reminds me of Thad from Gunsmoke... just a pretty face and that's about it.
