Maren Jensen is still with us, after all!
RavenGlamDVDCollector20 July 2017
Let's face it, guys, what worked in the movie/pilot, doesn't work week after week in the TV series, the episodes itself. Here, there are some good shots showing damage as it hits home internally with structures coming down - all totally adequate. But the exterior shots of spacecraft coming in to ram, they cannot be defended, they haven't stood the test of time, not even then, much less now.

However much you cheer for the old classic, for everything here that (gloriously) works, two things (cringe-worthily) don't. But cheer you do, in awe of the magnificence.

It struck me while watching that there is one thing you gotta understand. If you are fortunate enough to have a vivid imagination, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA can be the spark that ignites a whole new concept for you. You could mentally correct the images and more or less see what really needed to be seen. I wouldn't say I am that fortunate, but I at least go a way in that direction. And anything spurred on by this marvelous awesome concept is just bound to be great!

Best thing about this episode (for me) is that Maren Jensen is fully present, at long last, once more. I was working on a theory here these past few episodes: Maren is injured, look, she's either absent, or (as Athena) sitting down. So, it is good to see her and know she is alive and well after all. The most underemployed actress prior to Marliece Andrada of BAYWATCH and Lisa Stahl of BAYWATCH NIGHTS.

70's disaster movies meets space!

Warning: Spoilers
Fire in Space is a mix of 70's disaster movies meets space! Cyclon suicide attacks on the Battlestar Galactica starts fires. This episode has a Towering Inferno stye story. Hot rooms, people trapped, firefighters, and Mofit the space dog or dagget to the rescue formulated episode . Well directed and acted, but Fire in Space is just another disaster 70's film! Fire in Space director keeps a fast pace for the viewers interest. The characters are likable and interesting for the viewer to care about will happen next to them. Watchable episode, but if your going to skip and episode this would be it. Decent ending, but forgettable. 6 stars out of 10.

One of the weaker episodes

Fire In Space was originally part of the Mission Galactica: Cylon Attack movie which later became the two part TV episode The Living Legend. I saw MGCA at the cinema as a kid and it included parts of this episode in it. Dragging this sequence out to a whole episode is a bit much though. Basically a cylon ship damages the Galactica and a fire breaks out on the ship.

It's an episode where Boomer gets to do more than usual and it has some interesting stunts performed in and around the fire, but it adds nothing to the series as a whole. You could easily skip this episode and it wouldn't make any difference.

Disaster inspired episode not a total disaster

In the 70's, "Disaster" films were all the rage, and though the genre was starting to, uh, flame out by 1978, BSG decided to try and grab a few of its remaining crumbs with "Fire in Space". I know what you're thinking, oh ye who passed 4th grade science with a C minus. "But isn't that impossible?". Well, rest assured that the always scientifically accurate BSG doesn't disappoint here. The fire isn't actually in space. It's aboard the Galactica.

Misleading titles aside, this is a very middling episode. I give them credit for trying something a bit different here. And it was nice to see someone other than Apollo and/or Starbuck be front and center (in this case Boomer). But there's little of the "Zap!", "Pow" space opera fun of the series at its best, and the corny melodrama we do get is about as compelling as a toothpaste commercial.
