Needed More Punch

I like that they tried to go sci-fi in this episode, but overall it's kind of weak and low-budget and slow. It doesn't have much sizzle and pop. Seems like they barely had any money to work with when making this episode.

They throw in some romance for Jamie, but I don't want some guy putting his grubby hands on the Bionic Woman. I guess she's entitled to fall in love like any other woman and her heart is not bionic so maybe I shouldn't be annoyed, but I am. When they throw her into a romance it just cheapens the whole series. In this episode especially it feels totally out of place. And this is yet another episode where they make her look too weak. She's the Bionic Woman! She don't need no man to carry her!

ODD MOMENT: The Bionic Woman is standing next to a chain link fence and when a guy cuts the fence it swings swiftly toward her and comes within a few inches of hitting her in the face! This was not supposed to happen. And it was not a stunt woman it was Lindsay Wagner. That could have been a disaster.

RANDOM THOUGHT: I hate it when the Bionic Woman's boss calls her "babe". She ain't no baby! She's the Bionic Woman! Show some respect!

Overall, I liked that it was Sci-Fi (sort of), but it doesn't have enough good things, and a few too many bad things, to give it a high rating. And it brings to mind that the series as a whole was given 2nd rate treatment. It needed more money, better scripts, better stories, better sets, etc. That's probably why the ratings waned and the show was cancelled. And that's too bad.

Here come the aliens....
prdeller6 July 2021
Given the huge worldwide success of Star Wars it was inevitable that all the popular TV shows of the day were going to start shoehorning aliens and outer space into their storylines and The Bionic Woman was no exception. Not a bad thing as the OSI have had their secret codes stolen AGAIN plot had already been used beyond all endurance. The old alien intervention sped up human evolution line isn't a new one and it's handled reasonably credibly here. Biggest surprise here is the years ahead of it's time talk of how damage to the ozone layer was going to start to be a threat to life on earth. An issue that I didn't think the world really became aware of until well into the eighties. Like a lot of the series three episodes it's not one of the greatest but it often threw up bits that made you stop and think. And Jaime dressed up for a date, I don't think Lindsay ever looked lovelier than she did in this one.

Early geoengineering?

Warning: Spoilers
While researchers today propose spraying chemicals into the atmosphere, and anyone looking upward on many clear days can see that they have been spraying us for well over a decade, the writer of the story put forth the concept all the way back in the 70s. Creative, or just someone who already knew what the government was planning? Even in this story the unforseen effects of their plan threaten all life on earth.
