Wrong actor

Gary Lockwood, not Tom Skerritt was the actor that was on the run.

Lots of Action, Guest Star is Patty McCormack (she played the demonic little girl "Rhoda" in "The Bad Seed")
FloridaFred28 March 2021
An exciting episode with a lot of gunfire, car chases, and fisticuffs. Adding to the entertainment value is actress Patty McCormack, who played "Rhoda" in the cult classic movie "The Bad Seed".

Sure, the Florida angle doesn't play very well (I am from Florida; we don't have mountains, and we don't talk like hicks). But that can be easily overlooked as you try to guess who "Richard Halsey" (actor Gary Lockwood) is running from, and why.

I rate "Coffin Corner" 9 stars.

A COFFIN LOADED WITH LOTS OF CASH.

A terrific episode, thanks to Robert Holt. Among his credits were THE ROOKIES, ADAM 12, IRONSIDE, just to name a few.

10 Stars. As I've done the research, I've noticed that some tv writers were so popular they could only write a few episodes (sometimes only one) before moving onto another project. Such is the case with Robert Holt.

This episode takes off with Gary Lockwood playing a college football hero who apparently moved onto other things (not necessarily legal) which proves increasingly dangerous. He's in possession of a large stash of money and the goons are after him. This was Gary's first appearance on the series; he also played some trim baddies on BARNABY JONES. Best remembered as Dr. Poole in 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.

Two excellent actresses co-star; Corinne Camacho plays Carole and former child actress Patty McCormick plays Linda. Camacho had a recurring role on MEDICAL CENTER, later becoming a singer and McCormick will forever be remembered for THE BAD SEED.

Look for John McMullan as the sheriff and Joe E. Tata. He passed last year, beginning his career in bit parts on BATMAN and was a regular (the owner of the diner) on BEVERLY HILLS 90210.

Here's the only debit. I took off one star because this story is supposedly set in Florida, and obviously isn't. They should have moved it to the beach, which would have been a safe, neutral area. This was actually filmed in the small town of Newhall, California, not far from Santa Clarita. There are no mountains in Tampa, Florida. That seems to be the biggest gripe among reviewers here.

Cannon drives the same Ford LTD that Buddy Ebsen has on BARNABY JONES, only yellow. A beautiful automobile in its day. In the action department, William Conrad flips one of the creeps, not to disappoint fans and trying to keep up with MANNIX. Actually, Bill Conrad was quite durable, often did his own stunts, and was pretty good at it. All his years directing tv westerns and cop shows at Warner Brothers (also Columbia Pictures) was probably good show prep. He should have written a book on old Hollywood.

Sometimes you will see his stunt double, who looks just like him from certain angles, also in bit roles. Watch carefully.

Recommended for us late night addicts. SEASON 4 EPISODE 15 remastered color CBS dvd box set. 6 dvd set. 21 hrs. 2016.

Come to Tampa, Florida and see the lovely mountains!
planktonrules14 April 2017
I live a short distance from where this episode of "Cannon" was supposedly set. A few scenes DID look like home...with palm trees and palmettos. But mostly it just looked like the Los Angeles area...with mountains and brown grass. Here in Tampa, the highest natural elevation is about 11 inches...and it's very green here....nothing like this episode! The show also has many folks talking with stereotypical southern Georgia-style accents...something you NEVER find around Tampa!! I don't entirely blame the show, as many TV shows make similar mistakes...such as when I watched an episode of "The FBI" and they, too, had mountains...in Chicago!! Despite this, it's an enjoyable episode.

This is a highly unusual episode. There really isn't much story and you have no idea what's happening for most of the show....and Cannon is in the same position. It's mostly an action show, as in the first 3/4 of the show you see a guy (Tom Skerritt) being chased by baddies but you have no idea why and have no idea if the guy is even a good guy or just another bad guy. As for Cannon, this man hired him to meet him in Tampa to discuss his case...but Cannon cannot find him because the man is constantly being chased by assassins. So what's it all about and why is it worth seeing? See it and find out. I particularly like the role played by the man's wife (Patty McCormick)...she is a memorable woman!!

"Coffin Corner" was another thrilling ep of "Cannon"
tonyvmonte-549738 May 2024
A man is on the run with a suitcase of his entire account he just closed. He has a worried wife and an ex-girlfriend who's engaged to the sheriff who doesn't like Cannon snooping around since he's from out of town. Oh, and when we find out who the killer was...well, it probably wouldn't be surprising to anyone who's watched a lot of these detective shows especially from this era. I found this quite thrilling to watch, that's for sure! I didn't recognize any of the guests announced at the beginning or printed at the end so I surprised to see Joe E. Tata listed in the latter as I didn't place the guy who would eventually play Nat, the owner of the Peach Pit on "Beverly Hills, 90210" in this ep...

No silencer was used
joepharmasst19 November 2022
Okay I like the show but some of the episodes are not very well written. First of all if you're going to say a silencer was used on the guns that were shot at the hotel room, then actually film the scene using silencers. They were just regular shots. They keep bringing the point up throughout the episode that silencers were used. When they weren't. And if you're going to set it in Tampa Florida don't film in the dry mountain areas of Southern California. Why not just set it in New Mexico or something then? Or Texas. Just little things. And I don't know why they have to keep using the same actors over and over and over in all these different episodes.
