She was slipped a mickey!
planktonrules13 April 2017
Peggy (Anne Francis) was slipped a mickey and while she was unconscious, she was set up for a murder. It seems that they have a very strong case against her and it's up to Cannon to investigate and determine what really is happening here.

This is a completely average episode of "Cannon". This is NOT a complaint, as an average episode is still pretty good...entertaining and well made. I recommend you see it and if you do, look for two unusual things. One is the motorcycle helmet worn by one of the characters...it looks like one from the movie "Rollerball"! Another is that at the end of the case he actually DOES present his client his bill! Mostly with shows like this one and "Mannix", the detectives just seemed to have tons of money and you really aren't sure how this is the case, as they often work for free or at very reduced rates!

Murder by proxy
coltras359 July 2022
Peggy Angel (Anne Francis) , an attractive Hollywood publicist, is cleverly framed for the murder of Mike Faro , an ex-boyfriend. Someone had slipped a Micky Finn into her drink by the bartender. Of course, the bartender was paid to do it by a moustached man and his girlfriend, Mike Faro's wife (linden Chiles). Their elaborate scheme looks impregnable, until Cannon, a big man who walks alone in a dangerous world, gets hired by the framed woman. Nevertheless to say, this is a neat mystery, tautly-plotted and keeps one watching.

THE LATE NIGHT ENDING IS THE HOOK!

Outstanding.

Robert Douglas, one of William Conrad's old co-workers at Warner Brothers/ABC, directed this nifty episode and handles the cast quite well. Douglas knew his craft, beginning a long career as an actor, working with good friends, such as Errol Flynn. He must have had some great stories to tell about old Hollywood.

ANOTHER Top 10 episode, and here's why.

It's a very clever yarn, very atmospheric. Lovely Anne Francis is conveniently framed for murder, and it looks bad for her. Cannon takes the case, who turns the tables on no-account Linden Chiles and Marj Dusay, always at her best playing sinister types. He's playing too, somewhat in the low key tradition of COLUMBO. Remember the season's premier episode, and the famous missing button?

Francis is slipped a mickey and wakes up to find she killed Dusay's hubby in one easy lesson. Was it a case of sleepwalking, which was debated in an episode from SEASON 2. The plot is not original, but it's carried out quite effectively... and they ALMOST get away with it.

Wait for the end, and special thanks to Robert W. Lenski, a master at cop shows, who at the time was also writing for MANNIX and BARNABY JONES.

Not to give anything away... had he not inserted that ending, the crooks would have been successful. That's a first for the series.

Bill Conrad brought back his old friend, Anne Francis, who he directed in BRAINSTORM for Warners in 1965. Now a cult movie. Watch for it. It must have been strange to be acting with her old boss. And to note, Conrad NEVER directed an episode of his own tv show. Anne, in later years, would guest on his next series, JAKE AND THE FATMAN, which was an (inside joke) take off on Cannon.

There's a good gag at the end. Cannon gives his grateful client her bill, and he ain't kidding. Bob Lenski had to put that in for kicks. Well done on ALL levels, and with many familiar faces in smaller roles. Partly filmed at beautiful Marina del Rey, near Santa Monica.

This MUST have been a fun episode to make, considering all the Warner Brothers folks.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 6 remastered CBS dvd box set. 2012 release.

Why?
CherCee23 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I have a small bone to pick with this episode. After Wendell (the bartender who Ray pays to slip Peggy the mickey) tells Ray about Frank questioning him and Wendell showed Ray Frank's card, he then goes to straight to the pay phone nearby while Ray is still there in his car and can see him.

Of course, that is a huge red flag to Ray and makes him suspicious that Wendell is going to rat him out, and of course Ray has to put an end to that possibility! The smart thing for Wendell to have done would have been to wait until he was sure Ray wasn't around to try to talk to Frank. But then we wouldn't have this fun episode to watch, would we?

fatman rides again
sandcrab27721 November 2019
Linden chiles and marj dusay have cooked up a complicated scheme to get rid of her husband ... of course the cops are too stupid to look any further for answers when they have a solid case against anne francis ... she convinces the fatman to take her case ... as always, the fatman wanders around with his hands in his pockets while collecting evidence the cops ignored ... yeah right .... anyway, fatman uses the murders' own technique to trap them...
