This ploy has been used in other Cannon episodes
FloridaFred18 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Once again, the writers are going to put a wig, fake beard, and dark glasses on a character, and he won't be recognizable without that disguise by people who are close to him?

Granted, Weller Dane (actor Leslie Nielsen), posing as Dave Baylor, is hiding behind a fence in one scene, and in another scene he is sitting in a dark corner telling Nancy Baylor "Don't turn around!". But what about the attendant at the gym, talking face to face with Weller Dane, saying, "Another detective was here yesterday, a guy with long hair and a beard..." and he doesn't recognize that Weller Dane is the same guy? Not likely.

Other Cannon shows that used the disguise ploy include "Where's Jennifer" and "The House of Cards". It didn't work in those shows, it doesn't work here. An otherwise good story, but I ding it 3 stars for the wig and the beard and rate it a 7.

RETURNING FROM THE DEAD MADE EASY.
tcchelsey10 June 2022
S. S. Schweizter, one of the creators of the BOLD ONES tv series, wrote this tale with the neat title, sounding more like a Halloween episode. He was writing for POLICE WOMAN at the time, so it made sense for a LAPD connection.

Sure enough, Cannon teams up with his old comrades to tackle the case of a long dead crooked cop --who appears to be alive?

This was a storyline used on MANNIX, and actually has its origins with the CHARLIE CHAN mysteries. Great trivia question. Leslie Neilsen makes his third appearance on the series, now playing Cannon's former partner. His next appearance would be in COLUMBO. The reason I bring this up is that the mystery man disguise, replete with dark sun glasses, seems familiar and the idea may have been lifted from another COLUMBO episode that featured Neilsen.

Paul Stewart returns, who could play some truly menacing characters, usually the leader of a mob. James Gregory (long time cop show regular) plays the police captain and Leslie Charlesen plays Susan, best known for her recurring role on GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Can you figure this one out?

Partly filmed along Ocean Avenue at Santa Monica, which hasn't changed much. Note the fine suits and the stylish knit ties, making this one of the best dressed episodes. Or did Quinn Martin get a deal on clothing?

SEASON 5, EPISODE 6 remastered color CBS/Paranount dvd box set. Terrific cover photo of Cannon. Released May 2016.

Killing folks to hide that he was a dirty cop.
planktonrules13 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
After eight years, a man who everyone thinks is dead MIGHT just be alive and carrying out acts of vengeance. Frank Cannon and two former colleagues (James Gregory and Leslie Nielsen) get together to work on the case. But bodies start piling up all around them and soon it becomes apparent that something else is actually going on and the motivation is not revenge. So what's REALLY going on here?!

This is a pretty good episode but could have been better. This is because although the killer is disguised, it's pretty easy to figure out who it is and there isn't a lot of suspense. Adding that suspense would have improved the show a lot and could have easily been done. Still worth seeing.

By the way, although it's not terribly important, they mentioned that the killer used a Walther 38. There's a Walther P38...and the gun was not that but a Walther .380. Not a huge mistake...but a mistake.
