Robert Hegyes concludes a two part storyline
kevinolzak6 July 2016
"Raul Runs Away" concludes with Robert Hegyes, the Puerto Rican Jew from James Komack's WELCOME BACK, KOTTER, as con man extraordinaire Hector Zoltan, visiting Hungarian (a nod to Freddie Prinze, who described himself as a Hungarican!), attaching himself to Ed Brown south of the border as a detective in search of the missing Raul Garcia. News that the boy is 1000 miles to the south ends up a false lead, since none of the Raul Garcias caught by Captain Juan Gonzalez (Roberto Contreras) are the right one. Ed just happens to be a passenger on the bus that his Raul stows away on, the pair reunited in a church: "surprised to see me in Mexico?" "I'm more surprised to see you in church!" He finally reveals why he never told the boy about the first Chico: "I couldn't, it's taken me all this time to learn to face the truth myself...he went away and he's never going to come back...he died." Raul grieves for his long dead mother: "as long as you think about him, that's enough." Scatman Crothers, Charo, and Isaac Ruiz are all credited but do not appear.
