A Little-Known Gold-Mine!
NozinAroun812 October 2010
This cheeky little number is truly timeless! Classic Comic Strip that never gets old!

Adrian Edmondson plays a Postman called... wait for it... Mr Bean! This was at least 5 years before Rowan Atkinson made the name so famous. Mr Bean simply can't wait to finish his rounds so he can attend an unusually early screening of his favourite film, "The Sound Of Muzak". Little does he know that Rik is the owner of the Cinema and didn't actually expect anyone to attend a session at 9am on a Monday morning. Instead, he's anxiously awaiting the delivery of an 8mm porno that he intends to play at the patron-less session. He doesn't have a projector at home, but luckily he owns a cinema just 2 doors down. All he needs to do is keep his wife (Saunders) occupied by leaving her in charge of the candy bar, whilst he enjoys his Dirty Movie. Sadly for Mr Bean, not only is he going to miss out on Muzak, but he's also blissfully unaware that his wife (French) is leading a double-life as a porn star... and she's about to appear on the big screen.

Nigel and Peter portray the filth who have been ordered by their superior (Coltrane) to crack down on... filth! They have a strong suspicion that the proprietor of the cinema is dabbling in silent porn. After a brief stakeout, they become hell bent on exposing Rik's perverted antics.

If you're a fan of the random, Python-like humour of the Young Ones, you're gonna have a field day with this episode. When you're watching Dirty Movie... just remember the chisel, the wheelchair and the pet Lobster called "Breakfast".

Different and funny.

This episode is very different for these guys and it's extremely funny. They usually go for subtle jokes but this time they went for the slapstick laughs and they succeeded big time. There is very little dialogue this time, they go for a silent movie type feel with silly music in the background while the physical comedy is happening. The funniest thing about this episode is the actual dirty movie.I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it so just let me say that it's truly ridiculous. The only thing I didn't like was that they went for a Young Ones style ending.Meaning there really is no ending. While that worked in the irreverent world of The Young Ones, it's a bit disappointing here.Still a great episode.

Dirty Movie
Prismark1029 August 2021
Dirty Movie highlights the variable quality of The Comic Strip Presents.

I wonder if Rowan Atkinson was inspired to name his bumbling character from Mr Bean the Postman played by Adrian Edmondson.

Rik Mayall is the cinema manager who plans to show a dirty movie. The only patron will be himself and he will also be the projectionist.

However the police are on to him and plan to throw the book at him.

The postman wants to watch the advertised movie. The early morning showing of The Sound of Muzak. However the manager tells him the cinema is full.

The star of the movie is Monica. The local traffic warden who also happens to be the postman's wife.

Then there is the lobster called breakfast.

It is another short that is mainly influenced by comedies from continental europe. This one was funny with the right amount of absurdity. It even had hints of The Young Ones.

The writers also make a pointed reference to police brutality even though the cops are inept.

Musac
kom-900646 October 2017
What is the name of that annoying organ musac played throughout the film. It really blended in with the seediness of the plot, calling Ade the postman Mr Bean wasn't really a coup. Other than that I really enjoyed the show as it's not your normal so called sophisticated crap that they show now so that people called Pippa and Tarquin can sit around and guffaw at.
