Nowadays, we take sniffer dogs for granted. Dogs routinely are used at airports to sniff out fruits and vegetables as well as drugs. However, when "Dragnet" was on TV, this was still a relatively new concept and this show is dedicated to sniffer dogs.
It all begins with Friday and Gannon on narcotics duty. They and the other officers are having a terrible time locating illegal drugs and they lament that there doesn't seem to be anything to do about it. Then, they hit on an idea--train dogs to sniff out the contraband. Much of the show is about the process of training, gaining acceptance from the courts and dealing with ridicule from other officers now that Friday and Gannon have "gone to the dogs" (pretty lame, I know).
Overall, reasonably entertaining and informative. Not a great show, but worth seeing and pretty good for a season 3 outing.
