premis is excellent!

To complete what other review mentioned regarding the script (frantz21). I agree! I would rather comment on the way the episode was shot. I'm a lighting tech and the first thing I noticed was the use of the sun.........it's in your face so to speak. As a spectator I felt the heat like I was present. Also the use of crane shot was appropriate and very well executed. The editing regarding the car (Take Five) was one of my favorite. I would say that this would be one of my favorite episode of the whole series. It has nothing to do with Emergency Medicine but rather great acting and a supporting technical staff (camera, script, lighting, editing..............) Nicely done!

Fathers and Sons (#4.7)

Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode we have that is outside the medical work of the characters. Doug's father has dies and him and Mark are going to claim the body and find out more about the death circumstances. After they visit the parents of Mark.

The episode is great as in getting to know more about their parents, fathers in particular, we also get to know more about them as people. Who their fathers are played a big role in who they have become. Both characters have differences there but we also see a bond between them and different kinds of struggles they go through.

Good episode, wouldn't mind to see more of those in between the regular ones.

fathers and sons captured perfectly
frantz2129 June 2006
perfectly and beautifully laid out with all the honesty and history -nothing is left out even his fathers drink driving depriving another family of their father-and ultimately as GC says to MG still have a father very said and very true. It shows the bond between Doug Ross and his friend mark green who travel across the American west - not knowing what they would find . the difference between the two men gets bigger with every mile> mark thinks he his badly done with his dad - but he does not understand the sacrifices his naval father has made . all Doug now has are various memories and at the centre of them is huge Cadillac. Doug and mark go to small church to see the funeral of the other victim of his dads "accident" - on leaving early he bumps into the priest and reluctantly tells the priest who he is and the priest , without judgement , remarks " You came still"

Pointless, if you're not a Clooney fan girl.

Or someone fitting the description. I never understood why this mediocre actor, became the breakout star of the show. Really, he barely did anything, was given the easiest storylines. And showed no emotions on the hardest parts. The fact that a whole episode revolved around his character's boring life issues, was the lowest point of the ER series. And a desperate move on NBC part, to profit from his popularity. His father died, but he's not the first ER character faced with loss. And his demons. So why making it a short film, with all the clichés inherent to the genre? Personally, I prefer Benton's centric episode next season. And think « Fathers and Sons » was too random and out on left field.
