One of the better shows of the season

I always thought Paul Gauguin looked like Anthony Quinn, but it turns out he looked more like Robert Goulet. Good for him, Goulet is better looking than Quinn. :-) In one story, Roarke has bought a newly discovered Gauguin ... a painting of a woman who looks just like a guest coming in to see it. Of course, Roake sends her into a fantasy with Gauguin himself.

In the other story, a parole officer brings in a woman with a troubled criminal past. We were happy to see Monte Markham in a guest starring role where he isn't the "surprise bad guy". LOL Instead Rick from Magnum PI plays the heavy. Can Monte cause her to turn a new leaf?

This episode's stories weren't as banal and dumb as some immediately preceding it that season, so I popped it up an extra star.

Warning: Spoilers
when i saw the description of this episode i was not thrilled. the one story line was the parole officer that brings a hardened criminal to rehabilitate her or something like that. key word was "Her" . knew they were going to fall in love. the guy coming from Vegas somehow stirred it up a little but non eventful. I was hoping for a twist like the Parole guy was bad or something. I m pretty sure the bad guy from Vegas was Magnum PI's friend and the lady was the Silver Spoons chic. the whole scar thing , beauty in the eye of the beholder thing was cheesy.

THe other story line was better but not by much. So she goes to this fantasy and then has to do stuff and make hard decisions to keep the painter painting and stay alive. For what? to learn who the chic is who looked like her in the painting? what did she really learn? that the chic that looked like her was loved by the painter? This all recalls an episode of Big bang theory" where the women all note that Indiana JOnes's action in the film Raiders of the lost ark had no implications to the ending and it would be the same results without him. Instead though in this episodes case, she opened up a can of worms. I mean at the end they did say that perhaps it was her all along but its still stupid. the most stupid part, speaking of stupid is her at the end when Mr ROurke gives her an obliviously wrapped painting and she goes "oh what is it?!?!?!" what an idiot, i bet she was surprised when she got a shovel or baseball bat as a kid for Christmas.

So it wasn't one of those episodes i saw recently like the Brady Bunch dad as a cheesy vampire, or malfunctioning rich women seducing robots and such , but it was still enjoyable and a little better than it obvious plot summery. My favorite part is one of the ladies telling Mr Rourke that his explaining of the fantasy is so "Ominous". Thats what Ricardo Montobaum does, and is so good at.
