"Crosstown Buses Run All Day, Doodah, Doodah" finds the 'Militant Midget' picketing the school board with the boiler not working: "if you can read this you didn't go to Harding Elementary School!" Ron Glass guest stars as his principal, Mr. Pearson, who remembers Thelma as a 'bright student,' but recalls JJ as something else: "oh yeah!" He shows James and Florida a document that they supposedly signed, stating their refusal to allow Michael to be bused to an excellent white school: "black ain't beautiful on a yellow bus!" Giving their assurance that Michael will be on that bus, Mr. Pearson has one more stop to make with the janitor: "his union won't allow him to come to the school to fix the boiler until the boiler's fixed!" Michael's aspiration to become a Supreme Court Justice makes for a solid explanation to get him on that bus, though the 6AM wake up frustrates his older brother: "the only ones up that early are the garbage men, and the way the streets look they're dropping it off instead of picking it up!" Ron Glass made another appearance in "The Encyclopedia Hustle" before eight seasons as well dressed Lt. Harris on BARNEY MILLER.
