To me, the show doesn't really gel until the robber sequence. It's the last part of a bedroom skit whose first part, a leaky faucet that keeps Jack awake, is too predictable and only mildly funny. However, once the skit segues into the house-breakers, the comedy takes off as every theft attempt gets thwarted by one of Jack's pre-arranged booby traps. It's a funny extension of Jack's tightwad schtick, and I bet the stagehands had fun with the props, except for the wall- safe, of course—wow! Was that unexpected.
The little girl is quite an accomplished performer, though I'm not sure just what the writers were hoping to get out of the lengthy Margaret Truman gag. For better or worse, the president's daughter was the butt of quite a few jokes at the time, especially about her serious singing career. Now all that seems so quaint.
