Masters of Self Promotion
Hitchcoc28 April 2015
Two plot lines. The three bunkies are given the job of reviewing candidates for promotion. They are suddenly surrounded by soldiers doing whatever they can to butter them up. Igor serves food to B.J. Rizzo steps in with jeeps for private use. Klinger plays an accordion. Charles is threatened by a monstrous infantryman played by Hall of Fame and NFL stalwart, John Matuszak. The second plot (there always is a second plot) involves an innocent young soldier who has been wounded and is being hassled by a couple of jerks. Potter takes a shine to him and these guys resent the attention. He tells Potter he is going to volunteer for bomb demolition. This is a stupid move to appear macho Anyway, things come to a nice boil on both fronts.

Warning: Spoilers
Jeff Maxwell and G.W. Bailey play key supporting roles in this episode. Since 2018 Jeff has co-hosted the M*A*S*H Matters podcast with Ryan Patrick, and definitely worth listening to.

This episode is bold because one of the soldiers prizes his virginity, much to the mirth of his two immoral buddies who are happy to fool around with the Korean women.

Deborah Harmon has a guest role in this episode as Nurse Webster.

Warning: Spoilers
News comes down from on high that it's time, for the enlisted ranks to be able to, obtain some degree of promotion, Charles is overjoyed when he gets the opportunity, to Lord it as the head honcho, in the decision making process.

Against any judgement on their parts, messieurs Pearce and Hunnicutt find themselves shanghaied, into accompanying him on the Promotions Board.

Charles sets himself up as the 'Executioner' but finds himself under the potential chop from a disgruntled no hoper private Hitalski.

All of the 4077th privates who have thus far, been seen as mere army grunts, having absolutely no time for officers, are now falling over their feet, to ingratiate themselves and impress with their know how.

Of all of the M. A. S. H. 4077th grunts, which even stands a cat in hells chance, of obtaining any semblance of promotion? Is it the general factotum private Igor doyen of the canteen, Sgt Luther Rizzo motor pool entrepreneur, or Corporal Maxwell Klinger late of the House of Dior?
