Mixed Doubles is a comic episode. There is double matches with Rick etc with pretty females. Much tennis humor, snobby humor, and Higgens and Magnum humor. What works is Magnum thinks am I being played for publicity or is there a real case here. There is plot twist and the all issue tie up ending. Make for the usual T V plot. Not bad six stars.

Game, Set and Match to Magnum P.I.

A solid and well rounded episode, "Mixed Doubles" is a departure from Magnum's usual cases.
Looking after an annoying upcoming young tennis star, Carrie Reardon (Kim Richards), Magnum is reacquainted with an old flame (played by Elaine Giftos). He certainly has his hands full as it would appear someone means serious harm to Ms. Reardon.
Interestingly, Selleck's injured finger from previous episodes is very obvious throughout this episode, wrapped in plaster.
8 out of 10. Good fun.

Warning: Spoilers
Kim Richards guest stars in Mixed Doubles, but I was very surprised that Henry Gibson didn't get a special guest star status in his episode because of his legendary comedian status. Similarly, in the previous episode, Mr. White Death, it seemed Ernest Borgnine, another legendary actor, didn't secure special guest star status. I mean, Frank Sinatra did, but yes I guess.
Anyway, Mixed Doubles pretty much was about tennis and the sun and Hawaii, but in real life there haven't been many tennis stars hailing from Hawaii but maybe some did tennis scholarships there. Still, an episode worth watching.
