Funny

Mary agreeing to join Rhoda at a club for divorcees seems far fetched but Rhoda and a host of obnoxious club member guest stars make it funny.

And we're back on track!

My, oh my, what a funny episode. Rhoda and Mary join a club for divorcees and meet a handful of very quirky and funny characters. Loved it!

Sometimes a Little Lie Becomes a Big One

Rhoda talks Mary into joining a club for recently divorced people. The hook is a reduced rate on a trip to Paris at the end of a couple months. They go and, being the most attractive women there, they are immediately set upon by several stereotypical boring men. One is a dentist, played by Shelley Berman. I'd forgotten how funny he was. He is taken with Mary's wonderful teeth and gums. He even makes an appointment for her at his dental office. Of course, this lie is perpetuated and Mary is actually elected Vice President. She goes into her I-don't-want-to-hurt-anyone mode, filled with guilt for her lies. Her willingness to face the music leads to a hilarious conclusion.

It's only episode 4...and it's terrific!

Unlike the average TV comedy, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" had far fewer teething problems. In other words, most comedies take at least a half dozen or more episodes until the show starts to hit its stride...but this isn't the case with this show. Only four episodes in and it produced yet another classic, as "Divorce Isn't Everything" is simply terrific.

Murray is looking for a short story that can be tacked on to the end of the broadcast. He finds out about a club called 'The Better Luck Next Time Club'...a club for divorced folks. Later, Mary mentions this to Rhoda, and Rhoda suggests they go to a meeting. At first, Mary refuses but Rhoda tells her that the club is planning on chartering a flight to Paris...and it will be cheap!

When the go to the club, the members they meet are all a bunch of basket cases...at best! While normally Mary might just not go to any more meetings, she is elected the club's vice president! What is she to do next?

The writing just popped here...with lots of laughs, interesting characters and a lot of fun. Well worth seeing and one not to miss.
