Warning: Spoilers
To me, The World according to Matt, will always be the true seventh season premiere. It feels too much like a first episode to be otherwise. The actors looks changed, the new cast was added. And even Kyle's club was upgraded into what it will be for the remaining of the series. Season 7 has an advantage over season 6 for that particular reason, I think. Having all these musical guests, gave the show more appeal and things to look forward to. To me, Buona Sera Mr. Campbell, was a great send off to the Billy character. But Sam and Jeff's adorable wedding proposal, kind of stole his and Jennifer's spotlight. Writers choosing to simply kill off Matt, was not that surprising. As they clearly never understood his character. And even in death, he serves as second fiddle to his frenemies. This episode also feels like a season premiere, for all the secrets revealed and previous seasons callbacks. With one major mystery involving Amanda. Which is one of my least favorite season 7 storylines. Not only for bringing psycho Eve and Rena Sofer's wooden acting into the fold. But also, for making her look like the phony I always knew she was. I also hate the addition of the shrink as regular. He's opinionated yet surprisingly clueless for a psychotherapist. A lot of things went wrong this season, like Michael and Jane's hit and miss. Kyle and Amanda's excruciating bickering. And Megan and Ryan's cardboard couple. But it has a cool soundtrack, paired with special appearances. And is a lot better than one would think.
