Ghostly wedding fun

"Wedding Bell Boos" is interesting for not only being the second two parter of 'The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show', after "Where's Scooby Doo?", but also the show's last episode. The show has fared a good deal better on rewatch despite some episodes being a lot better than others. This was one of the episodes that won me over, even when my feelings on the show were a lot more mixed than they are now. There were episodes that did little for me on first watch, but others that worked very well.

This is one of the episodes that worked very well on rewatch. No, make that extremely well. Even as a child, "Wedding Bell Boos" was one of the best 'The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show' episodes. As a young adult, it gets my vote as the best episode. It is not quite a classic of the Scooby Doo franchise or a classic for anything, but for 'The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show' this is as good as one can get. While hardly perfection there are a lot of things that has always impressed me a lot.

Beginning with mentioning those good things, the music has its usual energy while not being discordant or repetitive. The intro is nice, though it has for my liking always been too short. The voice acting for particularly the regulars is very good, Don Messick and Casey Kasem were never bettered as Scooby and Shaggy (though their replacements have mostly done a great job). All the lead characters are fine in their own way, Shaggy and Scooby always deliver but Daphne has already come on a long way as a character. While not obligatory, Scrappy didn't annoy me despite his reputation.

Loved seeing more of Shaggy's family and his background is interesting. His family are a lot of fun with very individual and amusingly kooky personalities, Gaggy Rogers is often hilarious comic relief. There are plenty of genuinely funny laughs, especially with the ring. The ghost is suitably creepy and nice to see a villain from the show to have a backstory of some kind. The perpetrator wasn't a massive shock, but didn't see the truth about them coming. There is a fun, clever mystery with a not too obvious denouement.

It has to be said that the animation isn't too great here, the colours especially looking rather garish.

Overall, great for this show. 9/10.
