A Mind-Reader

Who knew that Lassie's boy buddy might have telepathic powers. Here Tommy Rettig plays Kevin, whose mother has just married a suspicious appearing fortune hunter. Kevin senses that Eustis (Rorke) is planning to kill the lad's mother, and approaches Pete for protection. Pete's skeptical until Kevin demonstrates his powers in a nifty little mind-reading scene. But's what's this admonition about never combining a drink with a rug. That makes no sense until Pete finds out. Note that Mel Welles from Roger Corman's notorious Little Shop of Horrors (1960) plays the exotic Manassian. His shop appears stocked with every weird item ever made. All in all, it's standard Gunn that combines eye-catching style with colorful exotica, with a slightly different plot-line.
