Nice Scenery with Plenty of Intrigue

Warning: Spoilers
Review - Scuba A nice who-done-it with surprises throughout the episode—I am leaving up to the viewer to watch for the surprise ending, no spoilers. Plenty of cast members, aside from the regulars, adding to the story as you travel from one lead and suspect to another. Shooting with spear guns only, no gunfire, with underwater scenes aplenty, considering the title, what would one expect. Nice scenery at Jeff's by the way, wink, wink.

PETER GUNN – Scuba – 1959

This is episode 21 of the 1958 to 1961 P.I. series, PETER GUNN. Craig Stevens headlines as the hard as nails detective who always dresses with style. Regulars in the series are Hope Emerson as the owner of, MOTHER'S jazz club, and Lola Albright as Stevens' squeeze, Edie Hart, who is the club singer at, MOTHER'S.

There has been a string of break-ins and robberies along warehouse row on the riverfront. During the last robbery, a man, Robert DeCost was shot and killed with a spear gun. The insurance company hires Stevens to get to the bottom of the matter.

Stevens checks all along the riverfront looking for clues. He finally gets a few leads at a scuba shop ran by Gertrude Flynn. She puts him onto a local who is also the diver the Police call in when needed. The man, Charles Cooper, seems to be doing quite well for a fellow who seldom works. He is busy with drinks and a couple of stunners, Georgine Darcy and Eva Lynd in his arms.

Stevens has Cooper take him on an underwater tour of the warehouse area. He also wants to check up on the dead man's partner, Bern Hoffman. This idea nearly comes to a fatal end for Stevens. It turns out that Cooper is the real thief and murderer. It is only the help of former suspect Hoffman that Stevens survives.

Cooper is handed over to Police Lt Herschel Bernardi, while Stevens takes Hoffman out to tip a few drinks at Mother's Club. (b/w)

Fun Half-Hour
dougdoepke8 August 2017
Superior episode starts off when a creature from the black lagoon emerges and lets loose with a spear from his gun. Plop goes the victim. All this means Pete's will have to go underwater to solve the case, so scuba gear here we come. But that's okay since he gets crawled over by about every half-clad siren on the waterfront. And how about that adding machine type guy who hires him. He's like every little old numbers cruncher I've imagined. Then there's the shop lady who spends her day ogling her octopus. If I were Pete, I'd be heading for the door right now.

Anyhow, it's an ace half-hour with mystery, style, and lots of sexy girls including Edie. However, fans of shadowy lighting, a series trademark, will have to settle for lots of gloomy underwater staging, including a nifty twist ending. But why oh why, does Pete shrug off all those half-clad cuties. Geezer me, I'd settle for just a smile.
