Douglas Perston is an injured South American diplomat on the run in Britain. Although he does look and sound quintessentially English. He has managed to escape the clutches of his political rivals but they are in hot pursuit.
He arrives at Contessa Caroline di Contini's country house where Harry Rule has been visiting. Harry finds himself pursued by a gang led by Gardner (Patrick Magee) a sort of a local squire but turns out to be an anti capitalist.
Caroline gets worried about Harry's absence and then spots a shotgun she has given to Harry as a present. Only now another man is carrying it.
The story is bunkum. Caroline confronts a man about Harry's shotgun while the man has the gun. Maybe she should had used a ruse as a distraction.
