Lots of troubles for the drive. So many that Favor and Hay Soos quit. Favor notes that being trail boss is like being in a cage. Wishbone speaks of responsibility and Fuller (played by James Best) illustrates lack thereof. Rowdy gets to be trail boss. The trail drive as a microcosm of life with the titled "toro" symbolic of obstacles to be overcome.

Mating season

In this rawhide story the cattle are getting kind of antsy, very quick to disobey and soon enough we discover why. the herd filled with female beef and steers shorn of manhood is passing through the territory of a wild bull. And the bull
was giving out an aroma that meant a booty call.
I swear that bull must have thought a harem was passing his way courtesy of Gil Favor.
But the men are getting as antsy as the herd and that includes the trail boss and the ramrod.
It's an interesting story aqbout how they deal with most unusual problem.

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler follows, with a terrible synopsis... This episode deserves no better.
I gave This 4 stars, only for the performances. This episode tries to teach a lesson, using the most asinine of premise; A wild bull stops the cattle drive.
Shoot the bull *as soon as it's recognized* and be done with it... But no, they allow the wild bull to cause a night stampede, then kill James Best's character. Favor throws a tantrum and quits, leaving Rowdy, in charge. Sometimes, art, for art's sake, is just unbelievably unrealistic.
