It's all been done (better)

Long running and well past its prime, The Simpsons with "Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass" gives us two ideas recycled from fresher years. Homer becoming a mascot via dancing was done before and better in season 2's Dancin' Homer. Homemade movies, Ned's with a religious theme, was done before and better in season 6's A Star Is Burns. Side note: Lisa being straight faced about Homer mooning was done before and better in season 5's Rosebud. This episode stands out for one reason only, the reveal Comic Book Guy's name is Jeff Albertson. This is dropped extremely casually after 16 years in an obvious attempt to tick off long-term fans, something I will give points for (he does look like a Jeff Albertson).

Some things are worth a minor chuckle; The Mario homage, omelets made from the eggs thrown at the Simpsons' house; Homer and Ned's church talk. Secular humanists complaining Christians are shoving their message down their throats (usually the Christian right is complaining it's the reverse).

That said, there are several points in this episode that, in addition to being unfunny (and most of it is very unfunny), rub me the wrong way. Homer wasn't always a jerk to the degree he is gloating over his victory over Bart. Bathroom humour sucks as always. I won't say "Worst episode ever," partly because it wouldn't be true, and partly because I don't want to be compared to Jeff Albertson.

Perfectly fine Simpsons episode

Perfectly fine. That's how I'd describe this episode of 'The Simpsons' from the shows 16th season.

The plot is similar to 'Dancin' Homer' way back in Season 2, only with much broader and sillier laughs. Whereas before the show would go for the quality joke, here it goes for low hanging fruit every time. It's also very, very much on Homer's head in terms of where the humour comes from.

There are some nice sweetly idiotic laughs to be found here, but this is an episode that passed without me laughing out loud once.

Even at this stage of its run 'The Simpsons' is capable of better quality than this.

Deserving of More Than a Pathetic 3

This Simpsons episode is a bit silly. The story-line get's a bit silly and the humour is a bit silly, but silly humour is just as valid a form as any other I think and I certainly laughed out loud a few times throughout this episode enough to overlook or forget a couple of the more "cringey" moments.

It's not a classic by any means but it's a good episode. It provides some good laughs and keeps you watching which is why I give it a solid eight.

I Hate the Mid 2000's Series

The Simpsons had gotten better few episodes after the movie, well the reason I don't like that decade the character are being more cruel and bad mouthing is totally more than usual I just can't take it. In this bad story I didn't watch the whole episode Because Homer said the D Bomb which really scared me a lot, After said the D Bomb three times in each sentence I just change the channel because I ad enough with that word.
