When the story begins, the Hartleys are discussing whether or not to have Aunt Valerie (Fay Bainter) come live with them. In some ways it'll be an inconvenience but the old lady is reportedly rich...so it couldn't hurt being nice to her....or could it?! It turns out that the aunt has a tongue like a viper and she is constantly bad-mouthing practically everyone and everything. To make matters worse, she also is cruel to her grandniece and tries to mold her into some little monster. How long will this continue until the family gives the old lady the boot?
Bainter was terrific...she played one of the most hateful women in TV history! But this is also a weakness because she is simply too obviously vile and hateful....so much so you cannot imagine any family allowing her to stay....even if she has money. Additionally, the parents DO love their daughter...so why allow this thing in their home?!
