Nolan Will Grab Your Attention Here!
ccthemovieman-110 October 2010
Josh is south of the border, trying to help a Mexican man who is about to be a father and does want the "help" of a "curadera", an occult-type figure in which the people have a belief in where he lives.

He hires Josh to keep the curandera away but the real trouble are the man's relatives who - by force of the gun if necessary - are going to make sure that "witch woman" comes into the house and does her thing before the birth. So, Steve and this father-to-be, wind up battling the whole small town. The odds don't look good.

Jeanette Nolan, who plays "La Curandera," is hardly an Hispanic woman (although the rest of the cast is) but she is very effective, however. Nolan, with the aid of a lot of ghost-like makeup, is genuinely creepy and interesting to watch and hear. Nolan had a long and impressive acting career, working all the way up to the year she died.

Like The Addams Family

Jeanette Nolan was a terrific actress. She appeared in over 200 films, TV shows, etc. In fact, she was cast in Robert Redford's film adaptation of the terrific novel, " The Horse Whisperer" (1998). She has a small role as the grandmother of Tom (Robert Redford). The best thing which came out of the film was a stellar performance from 13 year old Scarlett Johansson, who has gone on to achieve A-list stardom, and the rightly. As is typical, in the credits Mr. Redford writes "And introducing Scarlet Johansson"; however, she had appeared in 6 or 7 films prior to this. Regardless, this is about Ms. Nolan. She goes a little over the top in this episode with Steve McQueen. Sadly, she died just before the release of "The Horse Whisperer". She was well cast by Mr. Redford, who directed the film in addition to playing the lead male role.

superior third season entry

Warning: Spoilers
I found this episode of the third season to very enjoyable. Josh Randal goes to Mexico to help a teacher who is battling superstition on the part of the natives. A spooky woman or "witch" takes money from the villagers and if they don't pay she threatens them with curses and death. Josh has to use his smarts to figure out a way to protect the teacher and his pregnant wife from angry in laws who think the witch will guarantee them a new grandson. (If the teacher only gives in to their voodoo hokum) This installment of the series is quite unique and very well written. "Mexico" looks pretty authentic too. Jeanette Nolan was certainly awesome as the witch. I rate this episode very highly not only as a third season entry but as one of the best of the entire series. Check out Josh's very cool four shot derringer...whoa! this one almost works as a horror film.
