Directed by James Cullen Bressack, who crafted the story with Jcvd and wrote the screenplay with Alethea Hnatko-Cho, Darkness of Man has the following synopsis: Russell Hatch (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is a washed-up, former Interpol operative who vowed to protect the son of an informant killed years earlier in a raid gone wrong. When merciless street gangs start an all-out turf war and the kid is caught in the middle, Hatch will stop at nothing to keep him safe and fight anyone who gets in his way.

While it’s hard not to pick favorites, there’s no such thing as a definitive version of a story. Sure, some retellings are bound to be more popular than others, but there’s nothing necessarily wrong with updating a compelling idea for a new audience. That being said, it’s quite rare for a new version of an established intellectual property to stand on its own merits, with most remakes and adaptations being content with simply rehashing the things that made their predecessors successful instead of finding a new angle from which to tell an original story.
In television, this means that we’ve seen plenty of forgettable shows based on existing franchises, with everything from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to Clueless spawning soulless spin-offs meant to capitalize on brand awareness. A few days ago the news broke that Marvel's upcoming reboot of "Blade" was being put on hold while the studio looked for a new director following Bassim Tariq's exit. The revisit to the world of the film partially responsible for the superhero-dominated culture we're currently experiencing was set to begin principal photography in Atlanta next month, and was apparently already in pre-production on location when crew members were informed of the pause. The company is anticipating a restart for early 2023, but a replacement director has yet to be named. It's been said that the Mahershala Ali-starring film will also be "further developing" story elements of the film, with a trusted /Film source confirming that Ali will contribute to the film's new direction, perhaps even with additional rewrites at his request.

If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania”
The best vampire TV shows examine the archetypal underpinnings of the gothic-infused subgenre by referencing them in unexpected ways. The powerful, action-packed and bleak vision of Batman, as depicted in director Christopher Nolan’s legendary films of The Dark Knight Trilogy, is making a return on a new medium with a new audio project from the acclaimed scribe who developed and co-wrote those films, David S. Goyer. Indeed, Goyer’s vision of Batman will be the focus of a dramatic podcast for Spotify.
Batman Unburied is the title for the scripted podcast series, as DC, Warner Bros. and Spotify have collectively announced. The project will be the first to fulfill a deal announced this past June between Warner and Spotify designed to conjure a slate of DC Comics-adapting podcasts exclusively for the audio media platform. Thusly, Unburied is being penciled-in for a 2021 release window, brandishing a story conceived by Goyer, who is also set to shepherd the series as executive producer.

The CW’s content cousin, CW Seed, is getting a live linear streaming channel, on which original content will exist.
The CW’s content delivery strategy is about to get an upgrade in the streaming department, with the announcement of CW Seed Live.
In a content partnership with PeopleTV, The CW will unveil CW Seed Live, eyeing a launch for late fall, reports Deadline. It will manifest as an expanded, 24/7 live-streaming linear take on CW Seed, the 2014-launched à la carte streaming offshoot of the network, compatible on most devices, which houses a handful of original content mostly connected to the DC Arrowverse shows, along with random – often other-network – catalogue content.
CW Seed Live will be the home to some yet-to-be-announced original content, which, as the report teases, will range from documentary series to offerings in the supernatural genre. Additionally, like its platform cousin, Seed Live will not require a subscription,...

The Injustice Society has recruited its first three members: The actors taking on the roles of Tigress, Sportsmaster and Dragon King on the upcoming live-action DC Universe series Stargirl will be Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins and Nelson Lee, respectively.
The Injustice Society, a volatile collective of master criminals, dates back to 1947 in the pages of DC Comics where the group was the underworld’s counterpoint to the Justice Society of America, DC’s first superhero team. The vintage heroes and villains have a prominent presence in Stargirl, which will premiere in 2019 on the DC Universe subscription streaming site.
Osmanski will portray Tigress. The official Stargirl character description for the lethal criminal: “Protecting and providing for her family, Paula Brooks hunts the world’s most dangerous game – humans – as the Tigress.”

The recent crop of hit Netflix shows aren’t the first time Marvel has taken its heroes to the small screen. Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Blade and even knock-off-ish X-Men have had a go before the current golden age. Here are all the Marvel shows you’ve seen and a few you might not have, ranked from goofiest pajama costumes to best character-driven dramas.
18. “The Amazing Spider-Man” (1977-79)
A 1977 attempt at a live-action “Spider-Man” is a fun throwback — but in a purely ironic way because Peter Parker’s wall-crawling “special effects” are pretty cringe-worthy. Watching Spider-Man fight guys using extremely hokey choreography gives the whole thing a pretty goofy vibe.
17. “Spidey Super Stories” (1974-1977)
Some days, Spider-Man takes on some super-boring villains. He goes up against The Prankster (a school principal who keeps pranking his students) and The Spoiler (who just likes to everyday things for people) in these goofy...

Vampire shows have had a good, healthy run on television, but lately, the landscape for them has seemed anemic.
“The Vampire Diaries” ends its impressive eight-year run on Friday, coincidentally the 20th anniversary of TV’s iconic “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (and the moment that Buffy Summers arrived at the Hellmouth).
This convergence of events is a reminder that only a few years ago, vampires were the hottest trend on TV. Even when “Buffy” and its spinoff “Angel” ended, “The Vampire Diaries” and “True Blood” were there to take up the bloody mantle. But with those shows also gone, the vampire genre appears to be an endangered species.

Oh, this is going to get ugly! We are fully aware that vampire shows on TV have some pretty strong fan followings. Have you tried talking to a Vampire Diaries viewer about Nina Dobrev's departure from the show? Let's just say we didn't warn you. Based on the Marvel comic character, the Spike show followed the vampire hunter during his quest for blood. Perhaps viewers will recognize more recent shows like The Originals. The CW series tells the story of the first vampires to ever walk...

With the recent successes of such TV series as "American Horror Story," "Hannibal" and Showtime's "Penny Dreadful," horror is hot on the small-screen right now -- so much so that in addition to MTV's forthcoming small-screen "Scream" spinoff, TV studios are in the midst of bringing a horde of cinematic fright-film properties to television, ranging from "Shutter Island" to "The Devil's Advocate" to "The Mist." In light of this, I've taken a look back at eight previous horror movie-to-tv translations and analyzed why they hit -- or didn't -- with audiences. "Bates Motel" (A&E) Based on: "Psycho" Aired: 2013-present Why it did (or didn't) work:a great pedigree ("Lost" showrunner Carlton Cuse), a terrific cast (Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore) and generally positive critical notices gave "Bates Motel" a sheen of respectability that worked well in this Golden Age of prestige television. The show has so far aired three successful seasons...

This was a big week for the small-screen spandex set. Three separate comic book series (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Flash, Arrow) wrapped for a long winter hiatus, and each mid-season finale dropped a bombshell with mass quantities of comic book significance. As well they should. TV superheroes shouldn’t be relegated to the small-fry stuff that characterized Agents in its early episodes (drawing on weighty comic lore like stuff left over from Iron Man 3, stuff left over from The Avengers and a little-known, little-cared for mutant named Scorch). Bigger is better, and comic staples like the Inhumans, The Reverse Flash and the Lazarus Pits are size Xxxxxxl. But long are the days when you could make whatever Smallvilles or Blade: The Series and not worry about the larger ramifications. None of what we saw this week exists in a vacuum; even the CW’s output exists in the context of DC...

1998′s Blade movie was undoubtedly the trigger that instigated the current huge popularity being enjoyed by comic book movies as a genre – the pioneer of the modern comic book movie, so to speak. It was swiftly followed by fellow Marvel offerings X-Men (2000) and Spider-Man (2002) and the rest is history.
Such was Blade’s success, it spawned two sequels – 2002′s Blade II and 2004′s Blade: Trinity – and a 2006 television series (Blade: The Series) that was set in the same continuity as the movies, albeit starring a different actor (Wesley Snipes was replaced by Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones).
However, it has been ten years since the last movie and the television series did pretty badly performance wise (it was cancelled after one season because of poor ratings). Sticky Fingaz certainly won’t be asked to return and, at 51 years old, Wesley Snipes’ vampire hunting days are over. So how about a Blade reboot?...

It’s almost hard to remember a time when the vampire genre was dead.
It was before Twilight, of course. Before the film version of Stephenie Meyer’s novel was released in 2008 to the sound of millions of squees, vampire movies were considered somewhat risky investments and TV networks rarely ordered shows starring the undead. Since the conclusion of The WB’s Angel in 2004, there was FX’s Blade: The Series (flop) and CBS’ Moonlight (flop). On the big screen, the genre’s popularity varied from films like Van Helsing and I Am Legend (hits) to Queen of the Damned...

With shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story scooping up high ratings and accolades like they’re going out of style, there’s no doubt that horror is dominating TV right now. It’s even becoming a big time trend to turn popular horror movies into their own series’, with spin-offs of Psycho and Silence of the Lambs already moving into their second seasons and others based on The Shining, Scream, The Exorcist and From Dusk Till Dawn currently in the works.
That said, the road to success hasn’t always been an easy one, when it comes to TV adaptations of beloved horror flicks. Over the years we’ve seen many of them come and go, either failing to catch on with audiences the way shows like Bates Motel and Hannibal have or even failing to ever find their way in front of the cameras.

Terrible news for Luke Cage fans last week as Terry Crews has officially taken himself out of the running for Marvel's Power Man. "Everybody's like, 'I want to play this superhero character, that superhero character,'" Crews states in a recent interview with Black Film. "I'd rather make up my own. Make a brand new one, you know. 'Blade' was basically a failed character. That comic book didn't do very well."
While it is a shame to hear that Crews is uninterested in portraying Luke Cage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he does have a point as far as "Blade's" non-movie endeavors go. Although the vampire hunter has been the star of several ongoing comic series in the past, he never really took off until the "Blade" movie was released back in 1998, which went on to spawn two sequel films and even a live-action TV series.

The male-centric Spike TV has filled its line-up with reality fare in the last few years, via shows like tattoo competition "Ink Masters," "World's Worst Tenants" and "Impact Wrestling." But today the network announced its intention to reenter the world of scripted programming with five "special-event series" (which seems to be another term for miniseries) in development from the likes of Raw TV, the team responsible for doc "The Imposter," Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and "Crash" writer Bobby Moresco. The move back into narrative fare comes as Spike TV, home in the past to "Blade: The Series" and "Stripperella," attempts to expand to a broader, less testosteroney audience. The network's last scripted project was 2007's eight-episode hostage drama "The Kill Point," starring Donnie Wahlberg, Michael K. Williams and John Leguizamo. Here's a look at the five series Spike TV has in development (all working titles). Hit Men From Leslie Greif ("Hatfields & McCoys"), Chris.

Kris Holden-Reid plays Dyson, a Wolf-Shifter police detective who introduces Bo to Fae society. Kris Holden-Reid plays Dyson, a Wolf-Shifter police detective who introduces Bo to Fae society. In describing the two main factions he explains, "Light Fae try to live in a symbiotic relationship with humanity, while the Dark Fae are more interested in dominating humanity." Does that mean that the Light Fae are the good guys...

It’s hard not to watch this trailer for Vampyre Nation and not get the sense that the makers of the movie watched Daybreakers and wished the film had more to do with characters hunting down those mutant vampire man-bats. And I would agree with them 100% on that point.
Vampyre Nation may not be an Asylum mockbuster of Daybreakers but it sure does sound like it could be.
Bucharest, Romania. The not-too-distant future, but an entirely different city. The human population is dwindling. The vampire population, meanwhile, is exploding. Having emerged from the shadows a decade earlier, vampires now walk openly amongst the human population, as a precarious peace exists between the two. A peace made possible by the introduction of a synthetic blood substitute, dispensed by the Romanian government, making traditional vampire feeding, and preying on humans, no longer necessary. But even so, it's not a peace that everyone is entirely comfortable with.

Wonder Woman (2011): Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot TV Review. Wonder Woman (2011): Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot shows the viewer just how good NBC’s The Cape really was by means of comparison. The premise of Wonder Woman (2011) makes no sense. No secret identity. Woman Woman (Adrianne Palicki) does whatever she wants in public to whomever she wants. No jail. No legal repercussions. Nonsense. In the Christopher Nolan Batman films, Batman appears and disappears so he can not be tracked. In Wonder Woman, the heroine walks away in clear view of everyone.
The Cape was not a good hero television series much like M.A.N.T.I.S., The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, and the Robocop television series because they either lacked a sustainable hardcore edge or they never had one in the first place. In The Cape‘s case, it had some edge but it also had too much gloss and not enough grit.

Bloodtraffick Short Film Trailer. Jennifer Thym‘s Bloodtraffick (2011) short film trailer stars Grace Huang and Kirt Kishita. Bloodtraffick‘s plot synopsis: “In a world torn by a war between vampires and angels, a human vigilante on the hunt for her missing sisters is lured into the den of a vampire.”
This reminds me of Blade: The Series, which had incredibly bloddy fight scenes for a television show. From the looks of this short film teaser trailer, this may contain similar fight scenes…hopefully. There also seems like there is some of the posing from Versus mixed in here as well.
More about Bloodtraffick:
Jennifer Thym, director of the acclaimed webseries Lumina is back with a new fantasy action film called Bloodtraffick.
This is a sneak peek trailer for an 11 minute action short film which is currently on the film festival circuit. The short is a prequel to a feature...

Comics and screenplay writer David Goyer is said to be working with Showtime in developing the Eisner and Harvey Award-winning 100 Bullets comic series into a tv series. The comic series was written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Eduardo Risso, and was published by Vertigo Comics between 1999 and 2009.
According to Deadline:
While lauded as one of the best comic books/graphic novels of the past decade 100 Bullets … is a dark, noir-style story about the attempt by one man, the mysterious Agent Graves, to destroy a secret group of families that control most of the world’s wealth and power, and it also poses a classic moral question, “If you could get away with murdering the person who ruined your life, would you do it?” The book’s starting-off point is Graves giving ordinary people who have been wronged a pistol and a briefcase with 100 untraceable bullets, offering them to exact...

As reported here earlier, two of DC Comics’ fan favorites – Booster Gold and Blue Beetle – will make an appearance on Smallville. The episode, 'Booster' is scheduled to air on April 22, and is directed by none other than Clark Kent himself, Tom Welling. We have the first official picture of the pair of heroes as they will appear on the episode.
According to Eric Martsoff, the actor portraying Booster Gold:
'The episode takes place in Booster's very early stages where he's at his conceited best, where he believes he can do whatever he wants. He's gonna stay for the photo op and bask in the glory of his heroic efforts. [The episode is] rich in comic book history, but it's also a vehicle for Clark to start to embrace the marketability of Superman and what he could potentially be.'
The episode is penned by Geoff Johns, who has written the previous Smallville episodes ‘Absolute Justice' and 'Legion'.

Wesley Snipes has claimed that he is still first in line to portray the Marvel Comics hero Blade if the film series continues. Fairbanks Productions is planning a feature film remake of the classic Baroness Emmuska Orczy's classic tale "The Scarlet Pimpernel" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The book followed 18th century English aristocrat Sir Percy Blakeney, a highly intelligent and noble baron who played up his wimpish and foppish personality by day. At night he became a dashing masked vigilante who leads a secret society whose mission is to help French nobility escape from the guillotine during the year known as 'The Reign of Terror' which followed the start of the French Revolution.
Neil Jackson ("Push," "Blade: The Series," "Stargate: Sg-1") will play the titular masked vigilante, while a host of "high profile cameos" are expected to appear in the movie. The aim is to do something akin to Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" - a contemporary feeling but period-set blockbuster take on the literary tale.

Adding to what is building up to a seriously awesome-sounding final season of the CW’s Smallville, the network has announced several other high profile cast members who will be returning for this tenth and final season of the show. James Marsters (Buffy, Angel, Caprica) will appear in the 200th episode of the series as Brainiac 5, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Marsters’ character is described by exec producer Kelly Souders as “a slippery fish with a questionable moral compass.”
According to exec producer Brian Peterson, you’ll not want to miss the 200th episode for more reasons that Marster’s guest spot:
“[The 200th episode will be] one big event — and you have to wait for the last few minutes for it… [In it, we will] explore a little bit of the past, the present and the future. We kind of do a little look back to where we’ve been, and we also take a look at where Clark is going.

Wesley Snipes, star of the Blade vampire hunter movies, has addressed speculation about whether he will return for a further film in the series.
Speaking to MTV, he said he was taken aback by the undiminishing interest in the character: "This has been coming up quite a bit. I'm really surprised to see how people are anticipating me doing another one, so you never know."
He added: "There are some things we really want to do that we didn't get a chance to do.
"The first and the second one were experiments, and we started to get better. If we do another one, it will reflect our maturity and our better understanding of the genre.
"[I'd like to see] a larger, multiracial cast, and it would be great to have some rehearsals before some of the action sequences!", he said, referring to the rushed production schedule of the third film.

Just when it seemed like there was no possible hope of ever seeing actor Wesley Snipes pick up the silver stakes and don the trademark leather trench coat and sunglasses of the "Daywalker" in another Blade movie, Aith reports that Snipes has admitted that there has been some talk about a Blade 4 and that he would reprise the role if the right script came along.
Many factors seemed to conspire against the continuation of the Blade series. The failure of Blade: Trinity to match the success of the previous movies in the series was one nail in the coffin (vampire pun intended) of the franchise. The second nail was driven home when Snipes filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against New Line Cinema, writer-director David S. A New trailer for Smallville Season 9 offers an exciting glimpse of superheroes in the Justice Society of America, including Doctor Fate.
Brent Stait (Stargate, Blade: The Series, Andromeda) will play the hero in a Smallville TV movie called Absolute Justice which airs on February 5 in the USA. It's the character's first live-action appearance.
Doctor Fate - real name Kent Nelson - first appeared in DC Comics in 1940. He wears a helmet possessed by the spirit of the sorcerer Nabu which grants him abilities including flight, strength, invulnerability, teleportation and control over matter and energy.
Additionally, he wears around his neck the golden Amulet of Anubis, which bestows further magical abilities.
In the comics, others have also taken the Doctor Fate identity over the years.

Splinter (2008) Synopsis: A young couple crosses paths with an on-the-run criminal and the three of them end up stuck inside a gas station, hunted by a voracious and ever changing parasitic creature. The three have to work together if they have any chance of surviving this night from hell. Killer Scene: I love this film from start to finish, but if I had to pick a single scene, it would revolve around the parasitic hand that infiltrates the gas station and sets about making their night even worse. A hand may not sound threatening, but this scene is awesome and conjures up fond memories of the demonic digits of Evil Dead II. KillSheet Violence: There is a fair amount of blood spilled here, with broken bones and cuts, an excellent arm amputation scene, and an infected raccoon going Captain Insane-o on a gas station attendant. Not overly violent (there are only like 6 characters in the whole film...

DC Comics seems reluctant to let the cursed Shazam! flick die, even though the powers that be sure seem to want it to. David Goyer is practically a household name in the geek community thanks to his work on "The Dark Knight," well-received comic book writing on series like "Jsa," and the promise of his Green Arrow prison break film "Super Max." One of his earliest comic-to-screen properties, "Blade," has hit a bit of a stand-still in terms of further outings—but according to Goyer, another chapter could be on the horizon.
"It's been rumored over at New Line," Goyer told MTV News about the status of Marvel's number one vampire slayer. Speaking during a press event for his upcoming, time-bending, sci-fi television series "Flash Forward," Goyer said "there's been murmurings" of another "Blade" film.
Is it possible that these rumors and murmurs could belong to the alleged "Deacon Frost" movie, based on the villainous bloodsucker featured in the first "Blade" film? The actor who portrayed the character, Stephen Dorff, thinks it might...

Last year, Richard Donner tagged his former assistant, comic book scribe Geoff Johns, as an ideal writer to script the next Superman film. Johns, meanwhile, told MTV News he "would love a crack at Superman or the Flash."
Now, it appears both voices were heard by someone in charge, as Johns was brought in as a producer and consultant for DC's upcoming, live-action "Flash" movie.
Johns has already developed a treatment for the film, which will be written by Dan Mazeau, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article, which says Johns will stay on as a producer for "The Flash," calls the hire part of Warner Bros. broader strategy to develop DC Comics properties on the big screen with increasing input from comics creators, including Johns, Marv Wolfman, and Grant Morrison.

A New Blade trilogy starring Stephen Dorff - and omitting the title character - has now been confirmed
Director Stephen Norrington says the 35-year-old actor had come up with the idea for the new project and that it had "evolved into a very interesting story."
"The linkage to Blade is still big in the equation", he told Mania.com.
Dorff, who played vampire Deacon Frost (pictured above on right) in the original Blade movie in 1998, had first revealed the news to the Sunday Mail a year ago.
At that time, he said: "It will be a prequel to the Blade movies, Deacon's story. It's a new trilogy the director has created. It will be cool. Frost is a character I have never been able to shake."
Frost was destroyed by Wesley Snipes' vampire-hunting title character at the end of the first film, hence the new project being a prequel.

SpikeTV's "Blade: The Series" was easily one of the worst shows on TV. From bad casting to even worse storylines the tv series really sucked. That said the film behind it which starred Wesley Snipes was pretty much kick ass from start to vampire ass kicking finish. That is of course if we pretend Blade Trinity never existed.
Today from Mania.com comes word that a Blade prequel is being developed by Steven Norrington. The oddball part is the focus will be on Deacon Frost the villain from the first one and seemingly not blade. Quite odd. Shouldnt it be called 'The Deacon' and not Blade then?...

All right, Fangoria Campers. You may recall that in a prior installment (read it here) I tackled the idea of the Best Horror on TV. Ever. I listed a number of appropriate series possibilities, and invited you to kick other nominees into the list. What we’re going to do now is narrow that list down to 15. You give me your top Five based on the list, and I’ll compile the top 15 nominees for a later installment. I ask that you stick to the list; however, if you offer a compelling case for a show that I or the commenting readers missed the first time around, I might be convinced to add it.
So now, the list:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Angel The Twilight Zone The X-Files Dark Shadows Tales from the Crypt Tales from the Darkside Night Gallery Kolchak; The Night Stalker Supernatural Twin Peaks Friday the 13th:...

Here’s a little trip down memory lane for your Wednesday morning. Remember Parenthood, the Ron Howard family comedy from 1989? Sure you do. There’s Rick Moranis singing The Carpenters’ “Close to You” to his estranged wife/ school teacher in front of her class of children. Steve Martin making balloon animals as party entertainment Cowboy Gil and the unforgettable classic song “Diarrhoea” (“When you’re sliding into home and your pants are full of foam, Diarrhoea”). Ahh – good times. Well, it seems like the good times could be back again as American TV network, NBC has announced that a Parenthood spin-off TV movie will feature as part of their autumn line-up of shows.
This new version will last an hour and will reprise the antics of the Boardmans as they try to cope with the pressures of family life. Billed to star are familiar small screen faces such as Peter Krause (Six Feet Under,...

Apologies to the legions of Fango Faithful: inasmuch as I've been trying to get on a regular schedule with Unkillable Classics, a number of obstacles have thrown their limbs in the way. No matter. We're forging ahead. For this installment, I'd initially considered discussing Let The Right One In, but I'm almost afraid of overexposing it in a way at this point. Maybe we'll give it some time and come back. For the moment, though, I'd like to swing away from film and discuss a different kind of classic: TV. I'm inviting you, the reader, to help me divine the greatest horror-related TV shows of all time.
Here's how we'll do this: I'm going to kick out a list of a few dozen classic series. You can respond with some that I may have neglected to include. From there, the next few installments of Unkillable Classics will follow this thread,...
