My how heroic Willie has become.

Warning: Spoilers
A knock at the door saves Maggie and Willie from a fate worse than death when Barnabas realizes that Maggie is not Josette and was about to strike. Willie continues to protect Maggie, warning her that she must comply with Barnabas and pray that something happens so she can be rescued from her hell. It is amazing how he has changed under Barnabas's spell, and John Karlen is giving a great performance that realistically dramatizes this. It becomes apparent that Barnabas has had enough of Maggie and is setting his sights on the visiting Victoria, especially when he hears the sound of the music box.

This is the most nefarious we've ever seen Barnabas, threatening both Maggie and Willie with the most gruesome of deaths, but the words of Willie manages to turn Barnabas back into a more loveable ghoul. It appears that his initial threats have subsided and he wants to think about how to handle the Maggie / Josette situation. So it's keeping the audience guessing but opening up other possibilities by involving Victoria now in the story directly. So you get to see the two sides of Barnabas, both sinister and elegantly kind, and Jonathan Frid appears to be relishing both sides of this complex character.

Gaslighting to the max

Warning: Spoilers
After the dramatic climax of the last episode, Episode 251 offers a battle of wits between the dominant Barnabas and the compliant Maggie, who is finally showing some spirit. It's quite unsettling, with a previously mildly likeable Barnabas showing himself at his very darkest, while Willie and Victoria look on helplessly
