An odd non comedy creature feature.

Warning: Spoilers
Genetically altered killer crows wreak havoc in a small community to satisfy their hunger for barbecued steak and burgers.

At first glance this film plays off like a dead serious animal attack feature but its actually very odd, the crows never kill anyone in the film they just terrorize people for their meat, plus there are a couple of strange moments in the film.

1. A crow lands on a baby carriage and obviously there is a baby inside it, the baby's mother sees this but despite there being a dangerous killer bird sitting on the carriage she continues chatting with friends in the park, but when another woman runs up to the carriage to chase the bird, then the mother feels the need to get off her fat but to protect her baby from the crazy lady and not the bird.

2. Our lead character visits a university in search of the professor that may have been experimenting on the crows, the professor doesn't work there anymore so they give her his home address, she goes there and meets his wife who then tells our leading lady that her husband is dead, later we find out that the university also knew this fact but neglected to mention it.

I might have spoiled a few things here but trust me this film is nothing to cry over, its not the worst film out there but you can do better by a trillion miles, plus this a German made for TV movie and I saw it dubbed in English, so I can't judge the acting but the dubbing makes it appear very stiff, as far as the script goes its not borderline incompetent but it tries way too hard to tell a story.

Final Verdict, there are way better options than this film in the same genre, watch this one only if you're bored.

Better than expected, but still not great.

Unfortunately I couldn't find this DVD in its original German language and had to settle for an English dubbed DVD. Dubbed is never the same and doesn't always sound believable, but anyway, I watched it.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this TV movie. Every film about birds attacking people will no doubt be compared to Hitchcock's 'The Birds', but this film is good in its own right and doesn't try to be 'The Birds'. There's a lot of conveniences and plot flaws and Alexandra (Susanna Simon) is maybe a bit more determined (and suspicious) than she ought to be. The film is also over-dramatic at times (but could be due to the dubbing).

There's a few nicely set-up suspenseful scenes. The visuals and photography in general was good. The reporter was a very weak character and not really likable. The build-up to the finale was exciting but the film ended without a mention-able climax. The visuals during the climax were incredibly good, though. Is it a film I'd watch again? Actually, probably yes, but in its original language.

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, German version.

"Die Krähen" is barely based on "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock, there is some references to the 1963 film, but this TV version is really soft. Horror and suspense don't work, the film is good as a slow mistery flick, but not as a horror one. The music score and cinematography are good, but the acting is poor. Not a good film, not bad either, just forgettable.
