Darkwing Duck and Bushroot
TheLittleSongbird31 March 2018
'Darkwing Duck' has always been a show dear to my heart. One of those favourites from a young age that holds up really well, and is even more entertaining through adult eyes from appreciating the writing and stories even more.

Have been on a roll reviewing individual episodes for certain shows, animated, non-animated and of as many genres as possible (many as part of certain quests), and decided to do it with 'Darkwing Duck' and some others. Already reviewed both parts of the first two episodes "Darkly Dawns the Duck", great episodes and a fine way to start, and a couple of other 'Darkwing Duck' episodes that were among the first ones seen getting into the show, nine years ago. So will be starting with "Beauty and the Beet".

"Beauty and the Beet" is a very good episode. Not one of the best of 'Darkwing Duck' but has a lot of what makes me love the show so much. Gossalyn is very much missed, she adds such a lot to the show and her absence is deeply felt when her presence would have spiced things up even more. Bushroot is not one of the best 'Darkwing Duck' villains, being not one of the most menacing or entertaining. He is interesting though, there is surprisingly more to him than meets the eye and he is given a story that allows one to see his point of view somewhat.

The animation is very colourful and atmospheric as always. The music matches what is going on perfectly while it is impossible to forget one of the catchiest theme songs in animation.

Writing is witty, very funny without being too silly and thought-probing without being complicated. Things don't get too childish and it is all easy to follow. The story is compelling and lively in pace without being rushed. Darkwing is an immensely likeable and fun title character and Launchpad never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Jim Cummings fits Darkwing like a glove, it is always lovely to hear him in non-villain roles when he excels just as well in them. Tino Insara is well-suited to Bushroot as well, and imagining anybody else other than Terence McGovern for Launchpad isn't easy.

Overall, very good episode albeit there are better ones. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Darkwing Duck is up against a scientist turned plant, who is tired of getting teased and wants revenge.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was not my favorite, but it still had perks. The idea of having the episode in story form was creative, and the plot was pretty good. The powers Bushroot discovered after his transformation were creative, and the way they were used was even better. The conflict was very realistic, and occurs quite often in our real life. But it didn't have Gosalyn at all, which was a downer because she often adds spice and spunk to the show. And in my opinion, Bushroot didn't make a very good villain. Plus the two other scientists who were teasing Bushroot seemed very childish, but of course that could be because it was a cartoon and made for children to laugh at. All in all, I think it could have been better, but it was okay.
