Call Of Duty heads back to its roots and finds form as it does so. Here's our look at Call Of Duty: WWII...
In the interests of full disclosure I should admit that I’m not a huge Call of Duty fan. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate; it’s more a case of not having been a Cod fan for a while, a good while, in fact. If I’m brutally honest, the last Call Of Duty that I really enjoyed was Black Ops in 2010, and the last instalment that truly blew me away was the first Modern Warfare back in 2007!
I started to lose interest in the series when it decided to push beyond historical and contemporary battlegrounds in favour of futuristic landscapes and environments. That’s not to say that I have an issue with futuristic Fps games – I thought last year’s Doom reboot was a riot,...

Call Of Duty WWII's launch week sales are already up over Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare by over half. According to U.K. sales charts, the game is up a whopping 57% over its predecessor, which at its launch was around 48% lower than the launch numbers of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3. Current speculation is that Cod WWII's numbers are at least similar if not higher than Cod BO3, although, without analytics for digital sales and a worldwide scope of sales, it's really impossible to say.
Call Of Duty WWII managed to unseat the week prior's top game, Assassin's Creed Origins, and Super Mario Odyssey holds a respectable 4th place. The top ten of the U.K. games chart can be found below:

Seeing as ancient Egyptian culture first flourished around 4,000 years ago, it might be surprising to find that many top gaming titles have paid homage to this iconic historical period. Whilst it might not be going as far back in time as Far Cry: Primal, it shows what a fertile time this is for giving games designers plenty of inspiration for all manner of gaming adventures that range from first-person shooters to online slots titles.

A new documentary charts the history of the Call Of Duty videogames. Here's our review...
Games
The Call Of Duty videogame series is, as gamers will attest, a juggernaut. It attracts revenues akin to those of blockbuster movies, cost about as much to make, and every year, queues of people turn up for a midnight opening to get their hands on the new release. Not bad for a franchise that started in 2003, and has now become one of the very biggest videogaming - and entertainment - series on the planet.

Fox has officially hired The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard to write and direct their X-Force movie! Goddard also worked on Marvel's Daredevil and The Defenders, so he seems like a great choice!
It's been confirmed that X-Force will continue the adventures of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Cable (Josh Brolin) as they lead "a Black Ops force of down and dirty mutant warriors who are far more ruthless than their X-Men counterparts." I think it's a safe bet that Domino (Zazie Beetz) will get in on the action as well.
Goddard has done a lot of great work in his career and I'm excited that he'll be taking on the project. I think he's a great choice that will do some badass things with these characters!
There's a good chance that the film will fall into the rated R category. Like Deadpool and Logan, I don't think they'll...

Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) has been selected to write and direct the X-Force spinoff movie for 20th Century Fox.
Deadline has the scoop, confirming that Goddard, who was once poised to launch a Sinister Six film for Sony, currently has his hands full with Bad Times at the El Royale (Thor: Ragnarok‘s Chris Hemsworth), but will soon switch gears to begin writing X-Force for Fox. Behind the scenes, Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and the Merc himself, Ryan Reynolds, will leverage producing duties.
Furthermore, it’s understood Reynolds’ Wade Wilson will be placed front and center for the long-rumored (and potentially R rated?) team-up movie. With Cable (Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin) by his side, Deadline’s report goes on to note that X-Force will largely revolve around a “Black Ops force of down and dirty mutant warriors who are far more ruthless than their X-Men counterparts.

Call of Duty may be returning to its World War II roots, but Activision’s newest entry in the long-running franchise is anything but old. Call of Duty: WWII (which is actually its official name) turns back the clock, eschewing many of the futuristic weapons, exosuits, and robot companions that recent entries have been built around. Instead, developer Sledgehammer Games is aiming to create a more visceral and authentic experience this time around, and it starts with a few notable changes to the series’ core mechanics.
First off, no more regenerating health (at least in the single-player campaign). Instead, Sledgehammer is returning back to the tried-and-true ‘health bar.’ Also, in an effort to lend a more realistic tone, the unlimited sprint mechanic from both Black Ops III and Infinite Warfare has been ditched, requiring players to wait a short period of time before they can resume running.
These changes might seem small in nature,...

If you’re a big fan of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III, but don’t go in for dropping extra cash on Dlc, you’re in luck – Activision’s got an irresistible deal for you. Starting next week, May 30 at 1 pm Est/10 am Pst/6 pm BST, all four of the shooter’s multiplayer Dlc packs will be free to download and play on PC, and not just for the usual weekend period that these sorts of promotions usually run for.
Every multiplayer map included with Black Ops III‘s Awakening, Eclipse, Descent and Salvation map packs will be free to everyone for an entire month. That’s 16 additional maps over the usual 12 included with the core game, so you’ll certainly have no shortage of choice over those 30 days. Activision makes no mention of a similar free access period for consoles, but I imagine if one was planned,...

Activision’s decision to release Dlc for Call of Duty: Black Ops III almost two years after its debut still feels a little odd to me. Given the quick turnaround of each entry in the series, an emphasis is usually placed on whatever’s coming next rather than revisiting the past, making Zombies Chronicles an anomaly as far as Call of Duty Dlc is concerned.
It’s for that very reason that you might think this is a quick cash grab before the way is made clear for Call of Duty: WWII and its inevitably successful launch later this year, but that certainly doesn’t appear to be the case. In fact, judging by today’s gameplay trailer, Treyarch has given Zombies Chronicles all the attention it deserves in order to justify the add-on’s $30 price tag.

One of the hardest things in this world to do, if you’re an avid Scandal fan, is to pick a favorite season. Do you pick the most romantic or the most action-packed? Let’s face it, those steamy scenes between Liv and the Potus were amazing. But then again, so were the scenes between our fave leading lady/PR genius and Jake. And, the many scenes involving B6-13, which secret government agency involved in plenty of Black Ops but that seems to answer to nobody, well except to Olivia’s murderous Dad, and all that macho action stuff is pretty hard to resist,

Developer Sledgehammer Games has confirmed the single-player component of Call of Duty: WWII will feature a “global cast” of men, women, and children fighting on both sides of the conflict.
Word comes by way of GamesRadar, who caught up with the studio’s co-founder Michael Condrey to talk all things WWII and, in particular, its “emotional” campaign – a campaign that will do away with auto-regenerating health as we know it. It was here that Condrey reaffirmed Sledgehammer’s plan to tell most of its story through the lens of Red Daniels, but it seems players will also have the chance to step into the grubby boots of Russo, a French Resistance woman to be voiced by Jeannie Rousseau.
Beyond that, little is known about the full voice cast for Call of Duty: WWII, but it’s worth noting that previous entries in the franchise have attracted top-tier Hollywood talent including Gary Oldman,...

Not exactly the best-kept secret in the world beforehand, Activision and Call of Duty: Black Ops III developer Treyarch confirmed last week that the 2015 shooter will indeed be receiving one further spurt of content growth with another Dlc. Zombies Chronicles, as you’d suspect, given the name, is an add-on dedicated entirely to bringing fans of the spinoff mode the definitive zombie experience by way of eight remastered maps from past Call of Duty titles.
Yes, the map that started it all – Nacht der Untoten – as well as two other maps from World at War, three from the original Black Ops and one from its sequel are all confirmed to be receiving a new lick of paint ready for their return on May 16 for PlayStation 4. Activision’s announcement doesn’t provide a release date for Xbox One or PC versions, but you can probably expect the timed-exclusivity period to last for around one month.

It might be an older game, but Black Ops 3 is the target of the latest Dlc for the franchise.
Treyarch was the pioneer of the zombie missions in Call of Duty and they are celebrating it with a new Zombie Chronicles Dlc addition to Black Ops 3.
The new Dlc includes remastered maps from previous titles Black Ops 3, World At War, and Black Ops. The reasoning being the studio believes a lot of their current fans started later in the series with Black Ops 2 which means they missed the "foundation of zombies." This allows them to properly re-introduce them to the fans.

Activision and Treyarch aren’t done with Call of Duty: Black Ops III just yet, it seems. We've known for awhile that Activision was planning on developing a Call of Duty film franchise. They announced their initial plans about a year ago and we haven't had any updates since. Now today we've learned that they've been developing something big for the property. According to Activision Blizzard Studios co-presidents Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight ) and Nick Van Dyk, they plan on building a Call fo Duty cinematic universe. This is obviously inspired by the formula that Marvel has found success in with their own movies and TV shows.
While speaking with The Guardian, Sher revealed that they have long-term plans in place for the property that will encompass both movies and TV series. She explains:
“We have plotted out many years. We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops,...

Back in the late 2000s, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige teased the idea of a Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was an unprecedented step. Not only would we be seeing sequels to our favorite film franchises, but they would also cross over in each others’ films, and eventually come together in one mega-franchise that would culminate in The Avengers. While it’s easy to look back on that and know that it works, back then it was far from a sure thing. There were many questions raised by such an ambitious goal. What happens if one film flops? How can you maintain continuity between all these films? How do you handle actor contracts? These are problems that Marvel is handling on a continuous basis, but after years of laying they groundwork, they have unquestionably paved the path for other studios to follow suit.
And they have.

The Call Of Duty videogames are heading to the movies, as Activision Blizzard eyes a Marvel-style cinematic universe.
Notwithstanding the fact that the games themselves are suffering from their strict adhesion to an annual publishing cycle, the Call Of Duty series of first person shooters nonetheless remain some of the most popular videogames on the planet.
It’s perhaps, then, something of a surprise that – until now – there’s not actually been a movie take on the series, not least given how cinematic many of the moments in the games are. Marvel may have popularized Hollywood’s shared universe model with a string of standalone films all expertly woven together under the umbrella of the McU, but with each year that passes, we’re beginning to see more and more signs of other studios adopting a similar strategy going forward.
Take Universal as an example, which is currently angling The Mummy to be the crux of its brave new world of gods and monsters. Another studio that’s currently eyeing the shared universe treatment is Activision, after reports emerged late last year that the video game giant was in the process of constructing a “robust” cinematic universe built around Call of Duty.

Another studio that’s currently eyeing the shared universe treatment is Activision, after reports emerged late last year that the video game giant was in the process of constructing a “robust” cinematic universe built around Call of Duty.
Widely considered to be one of the biggest names in entertainment, the Call of Duty brand holds a tremendous amount of cachet...

On the heels of 2015’s Furious 7, one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide and the sixth-biggest global title in box-office history, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time: The Fate of the Furious.
As evidenced by last December’s trailer debut of the film—which currently ranks as the biggest ever, with more than 139 million views in the 24 hours after its unveiling in Times Square—audiences’ appetite for tales from the Fast & Furious saga has never been bigger, and the franchise has never been more popular or more global. Although this group has experienced much on the road that has brought them here—as they shot cars out of planes, through skyscrapers and down mountains—the core idea that drives them has never wavered: family. The Canadian Championship finals for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are happening this Sunday, March 26th and it’s going to be huge! Lots of big action on the big screen!
Eight teams will be battling it out live at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto for the grand prize of $20K and a trip to Cwl Anaheim Open.
For the eight teams who have come this far, this is a pretty big deal, especially, for a young Andrew Ivers. At 20 years of age, this is Andrew’s first time competing in Cineplex’s Worldgaming tournament. “I would have liked to play last year but unfortunately, I was 20 days too young.” he says.

After the smashing success of Logan at the box office this past weekend and the fantastic promo for Deadpool 2 that debuted alongside it, all eyes are back on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise. After the middling Apocalypse, fans found themselves feeling tired of the mutants, losing the excitement they had after efforts like First Class and Days of Future Past. Thankfully, things seem to be back on track now and as we look ahead to the future, there’s a lot coming down the pipeline that we can start looking forward to.
Fox currently has several projects in development that are set in the X-Men universe, one of which is X-Force, which will be written and directed by Joe Carnahan. We haven’t heard too many concrete details on it just yet, but while chatting to Deadline earlier this week, producer Simon Kinberg confirmed a few things that most of us already expected.

The Npd Group has officially named Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as the best-selling game of 2016 in the United States. Infinity Ward’s far-future shooter placed number one ahead of Battlefield 1 and The Division, while EA’s one-two punch of NBA 2K17 and Madden NFL 17 rounded out the top five on Npd’s round-up.
In tandem with that report, Activision has announced that Call of Duty as a whole became the “top-selling console video game franchise globally for 2016 based on revenue,” thanks to the combined haul of Black Ops III and Infinite Warfare. The publisher didn’t disclose how each title fared, but given the latter reportedly undermined when compared to previous installments, there’s no doubting that Treyarch’s Black Ops III had a big say in making that milestone a reality. Also important to note is the wording of Activision’s press release, as revenue doesn’t always equate to sales.

Since arriving on the scene around a decade ago, Batwoman has made quite the impact on the DC Universe and amassed a rather generous cult following. Having been handled by the likes of Greg Rucka, J.H. Even though she plays a vital role in the current run of Detective Comics, her devoted followers have been clamoring for another solo series ever since the last one came to an abrupt end a few years back. And, most fortunate for them, another volume is finally on the way and should be handled with much care when you consider that James Tynion IV and Marguerite Bennett will be writing it. For the eighth year on the trot, Call of Duty reigned supreme in Us retail charts, after Infinite Warfare was crowned the highest-selling console game of 2016 at retail based on “year-to-date revenues from physical unit sales.”
That places it at the tip-top of Npd’s sales chart for the month of November (see below), though after enjoying the “strongest launch in the history of the franchise,” combined sales of Pokemon Sun and Moon actually place Nintendo’s games ahead of Infinite Warfare in the standings – and that’s without factoring in digital sales for the two Pokemon titles. Overall, software sales were down 18 percent – from $1.17 billion to $955.2 million, to be specific – and that’s a trend we’ve seen unfold over the past few months with the likes of Titanfall 2, Watch Dogs 2, Dishonored 2 and other heavy-hitters turning in disappointing sales figures.

Mark Boal, writer and producer of “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Hurt Locker,” has settled his case with the U.S. government over the protection of unpublished material and confidential information.
The decision is being celebrated by First Amendment experts and more than 36 major national media organizations, as it calls for the government to drop its subpoena of Boal’s tapes, allowing him to protect all confidential material on them.
Boal filed his suit in Los Angeles federal court against President Barack Obama and U.S Army Prosecutor Major Justin Oshana after Oshana threatened to subpoena all 25 hours of Boal’s taped interviews with accused Army deserter and prisoner-of-war Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl. Several of the tapes were used as the basis of the recent “Serial” podcast that Boal produced.
“I’m happy that the Army ultimately agreed to uphold the traditions of a free civilian press,” Boal said in a statement.

Esports are growing fast. Too fast probably. PC is heading the ranks with titles like Dota2, League of Legends, Starcraft and so on and so forth. Fps games were classically attributed to mouse and keyboard gameplay as well until recently.
The team behind Call of Duty chose a different path for their brainchild and pioneered the path of professional console rumbles. They teamed up with Xbox for the revolution. A revolution that worked! Alas we are now entering a new era. An era of Playstation dominance.
New esports-friendly features were announced on Gamescom back in 2015. It took a while for them to adapt to mainstream though but we are now packed and ready. 2017 promises to be the hottest year for PS4 players and backers. Call of Duty betting is open for new hearts and domains as well, all thanks to Black Ops 3.

As the days grow short and the leaves begin to drop, the autumn typically sees the games industry bring out its big guns: Activision with another Call Of Duty sequel, Ubisoft with another of its Assassin's Creed murder simulators. UK numbers company Chart-Track has revealed week-one sales of Watch Dogs 2 were down a whopping 80 percent over its predecessor in the United Kingdom, after Ubisoft’s open-world sequel entered the weekly charts in second place behind Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Exact sales figures weren’t disclosed by the analyst, though considering that Infinite Warfare is currently in its third week of release, Eurogamer claims that Watch Dogs 2 likely sold in the region of 80,000 units at retail. Its predecessor, meanwhile, sold through almost 380,000, thanks in part to the pent-up demand two years ago. It’s by no means the first time that a sequel has under-performed in the charts; just recently, Dishonored 2 failed to emulate the success of Bethesda’s original stealth title, while Respawn has been fairly vocal about Titanfall 2‘s lowly sales. It is fair to say that Activision haven’t handled the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare well. The release of the game in such a restricted way created bad press, and an unpopularity around the release. The question is though, is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare actually any good?
There are certain rules I make for myself when I play Call of Duty, and that makes it a more tolerable game for me. One of those is to turn of voice chat, to get rid of the toxic nature of the game. While it is annoying that you can’t “block all” on the menus, it is a rule I stick to. Even taking that into consideration, I have become a fan of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Before I get onto the multiplayer though, what about the campaign?

After Battlefield 1’s Wwi premise so effectively captivated the gaming community, Activision was surely prepared for a divisive reception to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s teaser trailer. But even then, they must have gotten quite a shock when it became the most disliked video on the internet. In the weeks following both trailer reveals, the Fps community had never felt so segregated and, even if enthusiasm for CoD has waned slightly ever since Ghosts, had never felt quite so opposed to what has been the most successful and popular Fps franchise for a decade.
Still, we all know what the gaming community, and the internet in general, is like when it comes to bandwagoning. That isn’t to say I, too, haven’t found the CoD franchise to be overly formulaic for some time, because I certainly have, but you could be forgiven for taking the dislikes with a grain of salt.

The cold majesty of space is the beating heart of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and the playground for the series’ largest canvas yet. The result is a stunningly realized world married to a story of obscene spectacle that’s unfortunately but expectedly, light on substance. Thankfully, a competent and thrilling multiplayer and the return of Zombies mode rounds off one of the meatiest CoD packages in years.
But let’s start with the campaign. Visually, it’s a sight to behold. From the empty confines of an enemy ship to the inky blankness of space, there are moments of true beauty here – and even genius. The zero gravity of space is deftly brought to life, and there’s something formidably impressive about this vision of the world above our skies.
One standout level takes place on a mining colony knocked out of orbit and circling the sun in seconds.

With strong competition from Battlefield 1, and a lot of negative reaction to Infinite Warfare, has Call Of Duty begun to burn out?
We've been here before, looking at how well Activision's flagship videogame title is faring after such a long run at the top spot. Waning interest from consumers and constant assaults by the likes of EA have taken their toll on the Call Of Duty franchise, and with the latest release, Battlefield 1, doing very well indeed, it's not looking all that peachy for Activision's annual mega hit.
Or is it?
It was revealed recently by Gfk Chart-Track that the week one sales figures for Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare, always a big benchmark for the bean counters, are down by a massive 48.4 per cent on Call Of Duty: Black Ops III's release last year. That's almost half of the revenue lost in the important early period.
