Beginning life in 2007 with Arthur and the Invisibles (which at that time, was the most expensive French production in history), the third entry in this children’s animated series (co-created and directed by Luc Besson) comes to DVD. A mixture of live-action and computer animation, this is the tale of a young boy called Arthur (Freddie Highmore) who yet again finds himself teaming up with his mystical friends, The Minimoys. They are little elf-like creatures who live in the woods, and this time around, the two worlds collide as villain Maltazard escapes from his miniature surroundings with a potion which enables him to grow to human size. Arthur calls on the help of his friends Replay and Snow and they too, venture to the outside world in an attempt to stop Maltazard.

It’s another jam-packed week of DVD and Blu-ray releases, here’s the rundown of what’s available to buy from today, May 2nd 2011.
The Green Hornet (DVD/Blu-ray)
Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is a slacker by day, party animal by night… until he finds a serious career that’s seriously cool: crime-fighting action hero. As the Green Hornet, he teams up with gadget wiz and martial arts master Kato (Jay Chou) to take down La’s underworld. Even Britt’s assistant Lenore (Cameron Diaz), doesn’t suspect this mismatched pair is the masked duo busting the city’s toughest thugs led by Chudnofsky (Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz, 2010, Supporting Actor, Inglourious Basterds). With style, swagger and an arsenal of awesome gear, the Green Hornet and Kato are doing justice their way, making every mission a mix of over-the-top action and outrageous comedy. Review.

Civilisation
Blu-ray, 2 Entertain
Out on 9 May
Historian Kenneth Clark introduces this landmark documentary series with a quote from John Ruskin about how the key to understanding a great nation is to look at their deeds, words and art, the last being "the only trustworthy one".
So begins an epic voyage around the historical culture of western civilisation, taking in the greats such as Da Vinci, Mozart, Dante, Shakespeare, etc, working backwards from their art to discover how it was formed by their lives. Overseen by David Attenborough (when he was head of BBC2) and still as bright and informative as it was when first transmitted in 1969, Civilisation has yet to be bettered. Shot on film (the remastered Blu-ray looks stunning) and in colour (when most TV sets were still black and white), it's a precursor to many of the great shows from the golden era of factual TV such as Life On Earth,...

This month has been one of the best that I can remember for trailers. All the studios were desperate for their trailer to get released before the Christmas holidays and we were inundated with posts. Since I love trailers so much, the inundation was most welcome. In what I am considering making a monthly post, here’s a roundup of all the trailers so far for December which I have embedded below for your viewing pleasure!
I’ve embedded them in the order in which they were released start December 1st to 31st and if I miss any, please let me know and I’ll update the post.
I really want this to be intereactive so make sure you tell us which trailers you liked the best and which you think will be great or terrible movies from what you’ve seen! So, let’s go!

Over three months after its initial release, Despicable Me finally took the top spot at the foreign box office this weekend. Last weekend's champ, Eat Pray Love, slowed a bit, while The Social Network had a decent showing in its first major international outing. Despicable Me was up 52 percent to $27 million at 4,751 theaters in 40 territories. It opened in first place in the United Kingdom ($5.85 million) and the Netherlands ($1 million), and had a strong second place start in Italy ($4.98 million). Its overseas total grew to $170.2 million, and it has pushed past the $400 million mark worldwide (domestic plus foreign). With its biggest launch of the weekend coming from Indonesia ($694,113), Eat Pray Love dipped 26 percent to $13.5 million from 68 territories. Since opening in August, the Julia Roberts drama has earned $86.8 million overseas for a worldwide total in excess of $167 million. The Social Network expanded to earn $13 million on 1,767 screens in 18 territories, which was solid...

The Luc Besson produced CGI adventure Arthur and the Invisibles received a lot of flack upon release but I though it was actually pretty fun and a nice diversion for people (like myself) who are not down with the safe crap that Pixar continually puts out. Well, the first trailer has finally dropped for the second part so if it's the kind of thing you're into you'll find it after the break.
Synopsis:
Arthur journeys with the Minimoy Princess Selenia and her brother Betameche in search of the forbidden city of Necropolis, home of the villainous wizard Maltazard. They must make their way past sticky spider webs and Maltazard’‘s threatening henchmen.
The animation looks better than the last outing in my opinion and I'm actually looking forward to taking another trip to invisibles land, or whatever it was called to see what Besson and Europa have cooked up for us.

An international teaser trailer for Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard, the second film in the Luc Besson-directed animated/live action adventure series, is now online. The films are based on a series of books written by Besson and the first film, Arthur and the Invisibles, opened in 2006. In Revenge of Maltazard, Arthur (Freddie Highmore) answers a distress call from Princess Selenia, who is menaced by the nefarious Maltazard. It also stars Mia Farrow, Robert Stanton, Matthew Gonder and Penny Balfour. It opens in France next Christmas. A North American release still hasn’t been set. Besson shot Maltazard back-to-back with Arthur and the Two Worlds War, which is expected to hit theaters in 2010.

French filmmaker Luc Besson may be through with action movies, but he's just getting started with a new franchise of fantasy flicks. The Arthur and the Invisibles creator announced that he will begin work on a pair of sequels to the recently released film. Based on his series of children's books about a young boy who encounters a world of tiny creatures, the director will continue his protagonist's adventures with Arthur and the Vengeance of Malthazar in 2009 and Arthur and the War of Two Worlds in 2010. Invisibles has already taken in $5 millon at the box office and is on its way to become Besson's all-time highest grossing film.
