Live from Minneapolis, MN (The Mall of America)

Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Steve McMichael (F***** me!) & Bobby Heenan.

Jushin "Thunder" Liger Vs "Flyin" Brian Pillman

Brian Pillman wins with a victory roll.

This was a really solid opener. The crowd was into it and both played the babyface roles really well. It was a bit of a spot-fest at times, but a good one at that. Both of them crammed in a lot of stuff to make this pretty exciting. They are capable of more, but I won't carp too much.

**3/4 (Out of 5 stars)

Hulk Hogan is at the concession stand with a bunch of fans. If you like Hulk Hogan and his food, you get stuff like Pasta Mania, Hulkaroos, etc. A pretty painful segment to say the least.

Ric Flair Vs Sting

Sting wins by DQ after Flair had Sting in the Figure Four Leg Lock and Arn Anderson causes Flair to get disqualified.

***

Despite that Sting delivered WAY too many military press slams in this match. Flair and Sting are incapable of producing a bad match. Not their best by any means, but fun to watch. All Sting and Flair enthusiasts should consider watching this match at least once. This match is also noticeable for Lex Luger's shocking appearance during the match. Nobody expected him to come to WCW because he was literally in the WWF just a few short days before this.

Scott Norton confronts Steve McMichael until Randy Savage shows up and challenges Norton to a match. Eric Bischoff wards Norton off and yells at him to get out of there. Did anybody take Norton seriously at this juncture? I sure didn't.

Sabu and Michael Wallstreet are coming to WCW! Wallstreet has a memorable pun. "I'm sure the I.R.S will be watching me very closely" For those that don't know, Wallstreet was I.R.S (Irwin R. Schyster) in the WWF. His real name is Mike Rotunda

World Heavyweight Championship

Hulk Hogan (C) (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs Big Bubba Rogers

Hulk Hogan wins with the legdrop.

3/4*

Big Bubba is the Big Bossman. This was a pretty crappy match to end the night. These two have produced solid matches in the past. They had a very good steel cage match back in the WWF on Saturday Night's Main Event. Hogan's waning popularity showed here as he was clearly perturbed by Hogan sucks chants.

After the match, The Dungeon of Doom (Kamala, The Shark, Kevin Sullivan & The Zodiac Man) come out and attack Hogan until Lex Luger makes another appearance and makes the save. Hogan feels threatened by Luger and calls WCW "his backyard" Luger says he left the WWF because he's tired of playing with kids. Hogan offers Luger a title shot for the following week. Luger accepts. At the time, this was huge. Luger was languishing in the WWF and his career got a boost when he signed with WCW .

Overall, this is a memorable episode of Nitro. The main-event was a suckfest, but We got two solid matches and you can't go wrong with Flair vs Sting. The real story here is Lex Luger's appearance. As I said, Luger was NOT expected to show up in WCW, which made his appearance that much more powerful. This show is a must-see for wrestling aficionado's

When WCW decided to go head to head with WWF Raw, they wisely chose to debut their new show on a week that Raw was preempted by the US Open. The first match is Jushin "Thunder" Liger versus Brian Pillman. Eric Bischoff interviews Hulk Hogan at Pastamania. Sting defends the US Title against Ric Flair. Scott Norton comes out and has a confrontation with Randy Savage. We see a Sabu vignette. Michael Wallstreet (Mike Rotunda) cuts a promo. Hulk Hogan defends the World Championship against Big Bubba Rogers (Big Boss Man). The show ends with Mean Gene Okerlund interviewing Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger. Good episode with no squash matches. However, Steve McMichael is an AWFUL commentator.
