Director Louis Leterrier moves into the horror genre with the upcoming film 11817, Deadline reports today.
Rocket Science is presenting the project to buyers in Cannes.
“The film watches as inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life or death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who — or what — is keeping them trapped.”
Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying) wrote the screenplay.
“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” said Leterrier. “It’s what excites me about 11817‘s wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”

Over a decade since Kathryn Bigelow became the first female director to win an Oscar in 2010, some filmmakers are now ready to “give up” on fighting for gender equity in the Academy.
Patty Jenkins reacted to the fact that there were no female filmmakers nominated for Best Director at the 2023 Academy Awards.
“I give up, I give up,” she told Variety ahead of this year’s awards ceremony. “I say that even with all of their push to have diversity. The numbers are just hugely imbalanced of who votes for these things. I sort of just stopped paying attention to it.”
Jenkins continued, “It’s still going to take a long ways to go. It’s going to take a lot more to really see truly more diverse awards. I really appreciate the efforts that they’re making but we have a long way to go.”

Writer Matthew Robinson is heading to a galaxy far, far away.
After fleshing out the world that never lies in “The Invention of Lying” and the monster apocalypse in “Love and Monsters,” Matthew Robinson is penning the script for Patty Jenkins’ “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron,” which is currently scheduled to be released on Dec. 22, 2023.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film will loosely be based on the “X-wing” novels that were released by Bantam Spectra and Del Rey between 1996-2012. Jenkins’ film will usher in a new generation of X-wing pilots trying to earn their wings. Disney declined to comment on Robinson’s involvement.
Lucasfilm revealed that “Rogue Squadron” was in development during Disney’s investor day in December 2020. Jenkins, best known for directing “Wonder Woman” and its sequel, posted a video on Twitter where she revealed her fighter pilot father inspired her to join the project.

The original film will follow the fighter pilots across the “Star Wars” universe, though no additional details were revealed. Lucasfilm announced the news about Jenkins as part of Disney’s Investor Day presentation last year.
The “Wonder Woman” filmmaker said on Twitter that she was inspired to take on the project of what will be “the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time” because of her own experience as the daughter of a fighter pilot in the military. While Netflix continues to add a lot of great content, including some new original series for the summer, the platform is also going to be losing parts of its library. In particular, July will see The Matrix trilogy depart the service for the newly launched HBO Max, with some other Warner Bros. movies also making their way over to the fledgling subscription rival. What titles, then, are no longer going to be available on Netflix come July?
Well, among the films that are leaving next month, notable pics include Cloverfield, The Curse of Benjamin Button and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, as well as the majority of the Tremors franchise. Another big Warner Bros. title, Christopher Nolan’s Inception, will also be removed, part of what’s becoming a mass transfer of content over to HBO Max as the rival looks to compete with Netflix on its back-catalogue of movies. It’s the sequel idea that just won’t die. Doug Liman’s ambitious, brain-bending sci-fi actioner “Edge of Tomorrow” might have started its theatrical run with iffy domestic returns, but the Tom Cruise- and Emily Blunt-starring alien invasion thriller has only increased in status since its original summer 2014 release. With that affection came the inevitable: plenty of demand for a sequel, the rare case that finds both a film’s fanbase and its creative team equally as eager to ante up for a fresh adventure.
Rumors have persisted for years that a followup was in the offing, but with stars Cruise and Blunt busy with other franchises (including “Mission: Impossible” and “A Quiet Place”) and a seemingly tough-to-crack story, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” has remained in a tenuous position. But is that changing?
“I think there’s an idea, that he says is great,” Blunt said in a recent interview with IndieWire.

New year, and a host of new Netflix additions to match.
While subscribers are currently mourning the loss of Friends – after going dark today, January 1st, the beloved sitcom won’t be available until HBO Max arrives in May – Netflix has today rolled out a bevy of fresh TV shows and movies to keep us entertained, including some truly unmissable horror properties.
From Event Horizon to Cloverfield, The Amityville Horror to the Tremors franchise, Netflix’s horror category has officially been restocked. There’s plenty to choose from, too, including the 2002 rendition of The Ring, which only makes us long for a competent retelling of the Japanese horror legend to right the wrongs of Rings (2017). At least we have the upcoming Grudge reboot to look forward to on Friday (or January 24th if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom).

Warner Bros. has decided to bring back Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and the original director, Doug Liman.
Looks like Edge of Tomorrow's tagline (and eventual alternate title) "Live. Die. Repeat." was rather prescient.
After years of rumors and hopeful quotes from the original's stars, The Hollywood Reporter has officially confirmed that Warner Bros. is developing a sequel to the beloved 2014 sci-fi action film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
According to THR's report, Cruise and Blunt are slated to return as is the original film's director, Doug Liman. All three's involvement is contingent upon them liking the final script for Edge of Tomorrow 2. The first film's script was penned by Christopher McQuarrie (Cruise's Mission: Impossible buddy), and the Brothers Butterworth (Jez and John-Henry - two British-sounding lads if there ever were two). The Edge of Tomorrow 2 script is currently in the...

Warner Bros. has decided that they want to move forward with the long-awaited sequel to Tom Cruise’s 2014 sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow. The creative team behind the series that also includes director Doug Liman and writer Christopher McQuarrie have talked about how they would love to make a sequel and at one point even said they came up with a great story.
According to Deadline, Matthew Robinson (The Invention Of Lying) pitched a take to the studio and they apparently loved it, because he has been hired to write the script. I assume this involves the story that has been teased in the past. Director Doug Liman, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, are all expected to return.

Warner Bros. is officially moving forward with a sequel to Doug Liman’s “Edge of Tomorrow.” A follow-up to the Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt-starring time travel action movie has been talked about by fans and the creative team since the film’s release in summer 2014, and now it appears the sequel is finally taking shape at Warner Bros.
As confirmed by Deadline, Warner Bros. has hired “The Invention of Lying” co-director and co-writer Matthew Robinson to pen the screenplay after falling in love with his pitch for the sequel. At this point, neither Cruise nor Blunt are attached, and the same goes for Liman, but the intention is to bring back all three for the next film. According to Deadline, “The stars won’t make deals until they see a script to their liking, but they are all in the loop and Liman will develop it with the writer.

Joe Stapleton, a longtime New England broadcaster and actor in several Oscar-winning films, died on Tuesday, Boston radio news station Wbz announced.
Stapleton was known throughout Massachusetts for over 25 years for his work in local radio and television, most recently as Wbz’s traffic reporter. Among those credits include a role as a police officer in the 2016 Best Picture winner “Spotlight.” He also played a fire marshall in a crucial scene in “Manchester by the Sea,” in which he speaks with Casey Affleck’s character after the fire that sends him spiraling into depression. He also had bit roles in “Mystic River,” “R.I.P.D.” and “The Invention of Lying.”

A monster in a truck is the least ridiculous thing amidst a story that is often illogical and morally hugely problematic.

The Flash and Arrow executive producer is to direct a big screen remake of Little Shop Of Horrors...
Greg Berlanti is determined to remain the busiest man in Hollywood, it seems. Aside from serving as executive producer on all four of the CW superhero shows, he's also about to debut Riverdale on TV in January, and there's still Blindspot on NBC. Berlanti has been flirting with the big screen lately, notably with plans to direct a Booster Gold movie for Warner Bros. So what's one more project, right?
In this case, that project would be a remake of Little Shop Of Horrors. Now, depending on your age or your taste, Little Shop Of Horrors can mean a few things. It's either the low-budget (even by his standards) Roger Corman flick from 1960 (notable, in part, for a very young Jack Nicholson as a masochistic dental patient) about a...

Look out, look out, look out, look out, the plant known as Audrey II is coming to devour mankind once again. According to Deadline, Greg Berlanti is going to direct a reboot of Little Shop Of Horrors for Warner Bros. Deadline’s report says that it will be “a fresh version of the 30-year old Frank Oz-directed film,” which in turn was based on Howard Ashman and Alan Menken’s Off-Broadway musical adapted from a 1960 Roger Corman movie. Matthew Robinson, whose credits include The Invention Of Lying, is tasked with the new screenplay.
So what does a 21st-century Little Shop movie mean? Well, they are probably going to CGI the shit out of Audrey II for one. The studio is throwing into development a remake of Little Shop of Horrors, based on the Roger Corman horror movie that later became a Broadway musical.
Greg Berlanti, the producer behind many of The CW's hit DC superheroes-based television shows, is attached to direct the project, which would be produced by Marc Platt, the producer who currently is on the awards circuit for the buzz-generating movie musical La La Land.

It’s a shame there’s no outlet in our current media landscape for R-rated sketches written by high profile talent. He’s directed films such as The Invention of Lying, the recent Netflix offering Special Correspondents and, our favourite of his films, Cemetery […]

He may not be much of an impressionist, but Ricky Gervais has plenty of other talents, as the creator of The Office and Extras, a controversial host of the Golden Globes, and the star of films like Ghost Town, The Invention of Lying and, now, Special Correspondents. His Globes hosting stint might still be his most familiar work to American audiences—he played only a brief cameo as David Brent in two episodes of the long-running Us version of The Office—but Special Correspo…...

Marvelously balances the silly and the solemn. There’s almost a whiff of the Coen-esque in its slick sharpness, in its whistling past the graveyard. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

For a prestige drama about one of the more shameful periods in American history (there are a lot of those), Trumbo is surprisingly funny. And thank god for that. It feels good to laugh at the idiocy surrounding the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s, if only so that you don’t have to think too much about how widespread support for the most unAmerican things — all in the name of America, naturally — has been a constant refrain in American public discourse. You have to be a special kind of sheltered not to hear such nonsense demanding to...
