There are three types of people in the world: "Garfield" people, "Calvin and Hobbes" people, and "Peanuts" people. As a practicing worshipper of The Great Pumpkin and the human result of what happens when Lucy van Pelt and Peppermint Patty go through the Brundlefly machine, I am firmly in the latter camp. There's no such thing as a bad "Peanuts" movie, in my opinion, only films that are special to a smaller number of fans.
The characters created by Charles M. Schulz have been entertaining generations for over 75 years, and there's no sign of stopping. Apple won the rights to much of the "Peanuts" library in the streaming wars, releasing the hybrid "Peanuts" special/Schulz documentary "Who Are You, Charlie Brown?" as well as two series, "Snoopy in Space" and "The Snoopy Show." Now, Apple TV+ is developing its first "Peanuts" original feature, bringing Charlie Brown and the gang to the Big City.

When Apple TV+ went live four years ago on November 1, 2019, it was a streaming platform with just six titles. The new streamer’s marquee push was the Jennifer Aniston-Reese Witherspoon melodrama The Morning Show, which is currently airing its third season. Also available at launch was the revisionist space race historical drama For All Mankind (Season 4 debuts November 10), the post-apocalyptic series See starring Jason Mamoa, the whimsical period piece Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld, and the charming yet self-explanatory Snoopy in Space.
In 2022, Apple TV+ became the first streaming platform to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards with Coda. But when it launched, it didn’t have a single scripted movie on offer. The only film it boasted was the nature documentary The Elephant Queen. And that was it. No library of licensed titles or big special events. Just half a dozen originals.

Sometimes, the people who make the biggest difference aren’t the ones who grab the spotlight. In “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie,” we get to see firsthand how our lovable introvert, Marcie, makes a monumental difference from behind the scenes for both her friends and her community. To train for the school golf championship, Marcie assists Peppermint Patty as her caddie, offering thoughtful and deliberate advice to help her win. Meanwhile, after coming up with brilliant solutions to her classmates’ problems – from hallway traffic jams to lunchtime pizza shortages – Marcie is unexpectedly elected as class president … a role she never wanted.
Suddenly thrust into the spotlight, Marcie struggles to cope with the expectations of her new job and retreats as far from the public eye as possible. As the golf championship begins, Marcie is still in hiding and Peppermint Patty is forced to tee off with Charlie Brown filling in as her caddie.

Apple TV+ today unveiled the first trailer for “Lucy’s School,” a new original special celebrating educators based on the “Peanuts” comic strip by Charles M. Schulz.
In this new tale, the Peanuts gang enjoy summer break but are anxious about starting at a new school in the Fall, inspiring Lucy to start her own school instead. But, unsurprisingly, teaching isn’t as easy as it sounds. “Lucy’s School” is a love letter to teachers, and an appreciation of the impact a teacher can have on a child. It explores the fear of change, and shows how Lucy, supported by her friends, faces and overcomes her own fears.

Following Variety‘s exclusive report in December, Apple is officially announcing its multi-year content partnership with David Ellison’s Skydance Animation.
The agreement, which includes the previously announced feature films “Luck” and “Spellbound,” will also include what Apple billed as “first-ever theatrical-quality animated television series” for Apple TV Plus subscribers.
Skydance Animation is a division of Ellison’s Skydance Media, which is run by John Lasseter and president Holly Edwards. The deal reunites Lasseter with the Cupertino giant decades after he founded Pixar with the late Steve Jobs.
The first series up is “The Search for WondLa,” which scored a two-season order to start, based on the beloved book series by Tony Diterlizzi. The Apple original will be written and executive produced by showrunner Lauren Montgomery, with Chad Quant, Diterlizzi, and Gotham Group also serving as executive producers. Several other titles are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The union between Apple TV+ and the Peanuts has been a successful one, so far. Their animated series “Snoopy in Space” was nominated for a Daytime Emmy, and they’re looking to dive into the world of new animated holiday specials that might just give “A Charlie Brown Christmas” a run for its money. One of the new installments is “The Snoopy Show,” a series aimed at giving audiences more of the beloved beagle and his larger-than-life adventures.
Each episode of “The Snoopy Show” consists of three separate stories involving Snoopy and his close companion Woodstock. We watch the pair build a snowman, write their memoirs, and help Charlie Brown (voiced by Ethan Pugiotto) confess his love for the little red-haired girl.
Compared to other children’s series where the lesson is front and center, “The Snoopy Show” isn’t particularly preachy. As Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts engage in the plot,...

While everyone’s favorite beagle is center stage in the new Apple TV+ series “The Snoopy Show” — as well as the streamer’s other “Peanuts”-inspired original, “Snoopy in Space” — the animated series’ creators were still equally focused on Snoopy’s far more grounded, relatable owner, perennial “good man” Charlie Brown. “Whereas you have a lot of kids aspiring to be superheroes, maybe not everyone wants to be Charlie Brown, but everyone has been Charlie Brown,” Mark Evestaff, showrunner and executive producer on “The Snoopy Show” and “Snoopy in Space,” told TheWrap. “Yes, there’s failure — but there’s also resilience. And I think that’s a stronger thing to fight for. I think kids really recognize this stuff and hopefully they’ll latch onto that.” The team behind the show sought a way to reintroduce Charlie Brown — who first debuted in the late cartoonist Charles M. Charlie Brown meets Snoopy for the first time in the new trailer for The Snoopy Show, out February 5th on Apple TV+.
The clip opens with Snoopy as a lonely puppy, perched on a pile of hay inside a barn. Brown hands him a bone and delightfully tells him they’re going to be best friends. Charlie brings him home, where they ride motorcycles, play football, bake cakes, and go sledding.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Peanuts without the rest of the gang: Woodstock, Snoopy’s partner in crime.

Apple TV+ is pulling the football from millions of traditional television viewers hoping to watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on broadcast, and at least a few hundred thousand of them are so unhappy about it they’ve launched a Change.org petition over the move. Former rights holder ABC is also missing out due to the recently expanded Apple TV+ deal for the catalog of specials based on Charles M. Schulz’ “Peanuts” cartoon — including classics like “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” The specials were good for a few million viewers apiece, annually — that adds up. Apple TV+ Renews ‘Snoopy in Space’ for Season 2, Will Produce New Peanuts Shows and Holiday Specials
Apple TV+ has renewed “Snoopy in Space” for Season 2 and, just in time for the holidays, is set to become the home of iconic Peanuts specials and create new ones celebrating Mother’s Day, Earth Day, New Year’s Eve and “Back to School” season, the streaming service said Monday.
Apple’s streaming service, which launched the first season of “Snoopy in Space” in November 2019, has expanded its partnership with WildBrain, Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film Productions to create new shows and specials based on Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang. Apple TV Plus announced Monday that it has inked a multi-year overall deal with the Maurice Sendak Foundation, through which it will develop new projects based on Sendak’s books and illustrations.
The streaming deal marks a first for the non-profit charitable foundation, which supports the artistic legacy of the late Sendak, who authored and illustrated the 1963 children’s classic, “Where the Wild Things Are,” as well as “In The Night Kitchen,” “Outside Over There,” and “Bumble-Ardy.” Sendak wrote and illustrated no fewer than 17 books, and lent his artistic talents as an illustrator to over one hundred other titles, including Else Holmelund Minarik’s “Little Bear” book series and Ruth Krauss’ “A Very Special House,” “Somebody Else’s Nut Tree and Other Tales from Children,” and more.
Apple TV Plus will work with writer and director — as well as longtime Sendak collaborator — Arthur Yorinks to bring each project to life.

As the streaming wars have been consumed this spring by the launches of HBO Max and Quibi — with Peacock still to come — another new entrant, Apple TV Plus, recently found reason to celebrate on the awards front.
The Daytime Emmy nominations were finally announced last month by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences after a monthlong delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Apple TV Plus scored an impressive haul for a first-timer. Even though the service has been streaming for only six months, its four kids shows landed a total of 17 nods — placing it ahead of networks like HBO (with 14) in total daytime noms.
Stack that up against established streaming competitors, and Apple has quickly become a contender: Among other streamers in the kids categories, Netflix scored 29 noms from 17 shows, while Amazon picked up 20 noms across 10 shows.
Now comes the Primetime Emmy race, which is administered by NATAS’ L.

When “Moana” left Netflix on Dec. 20, parents of little kids let out a collective wail of despair on Twitter and Facebook parenting groups everywhere. The phrase “ruined Christmas” was pointedly used in the streamer’s direction — sometimes facetiously, sometimes with the reflected ire of a preschooler who had awakened one morning to find her favorite movie unexpectedly wiped from the universe.
Overly dramatic? Yes. But even more dramatic is the fight for the next generation of television viewers, primed to expect their shows on demand and unlikely to have ever set eyes on a TV listing grid. As families consider which platforms best fulfill their television desires, the industry’s thirst for younger eyeballs (and parental cash) means that the forthcoming direct-to-consumer entertainment turf war is bound to draw blood from the wholesome realm of children’s programming.
In the linear world, viewership figures at ad-supported kid-oriented cable networks are pretty grim.
