Rousing show consisting of a "greatest hits" set
paul-allaer8 February 2020
Shakira made headlines this past weekend with her thrilling Super Bowl halftime show (more on that later). Just a few months ago, she released this movie, capping her 2018 "El Dorado World Tour". This particular show was filmed over two nights at the LA Forum in late August/early September, 2018.

"Shakira In Concert: El Dorado World Tour" (2019 release; 122 min.) opens with Shakira in an elaborate underwater sequence. We then go to the LA Forum, as fans are storming in to get the best floor spots. The Forum goes dark, and there she comes on stage, strutting with a rousing "Estoy aquí / ¿Dónde estás corazón?". After a high-energy "She Wolf", we then get a backstage look on how the show was planned, and it is obvious that Shakira herself was involved in all but the smallest details. Later on she also talks openly about her vocal problems (haemorrhage on her vocal cord, forcing the postponement of the tour by over 6 months). Meanwhile back to the show itself, it is in all but name a "greatest hits" set, with all of the expected highlights ("Whenever, Wherever", "Underneath Your Clothes", the Spanish language hits, culminating with the encores "Toneladas", "Hips Don't Lie", and "La Bicicleta"). Shakira is in fine form throughout, as is her band which sounds tight and on the mark. Sadly I can't say the same thing of the movie's editing, in particular during the uptempo tunes, where the camera angle changes literally EVERY SECOND. Just dizzying, and the reason I cannot rate this higher than 7 stars. "Shakira In Concert: El Dorado World Tour" had a brief theater run late last year, and recently premiered on HBO, where I saw it. It's now available on HBO On Demand and other streaming services.

You may have heard that Shakira, along with J.Lo, brought a thrilling halftime show at the Super Bowl last weekend. It was for me the best halftime show in YEARS. Shakira brought the house down with her super-tight and super-packed set. If you missed it, just Google it. Set List Shakira Super Bowl XIL Miami 2-2-20: 1.She Wolf 2.Empire 3.Ojos así 4.Whenever, Wherever 5.I Like It (with Bad Bunny) (with elements of "En Barranquilla Me Quedo") 6.Chantaje (with Bad Bunny) (with elements of "Callaita") 7.Hips Don't Lie 8.Let's Get Loud (with Jennifer Lopez) 9.Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) (with Jennifer Lopez).

The Shakira that we never saw before
cacorrea18 November 2019
This is a must see to any Shakira fan and even to those who doesn't know her to well.

Comparing bee first 2003 concert documentary "Live and off the record" with "El dorado world tour" even if you can still see the hardworking and perfectionist philosophy that took her to the top of the stardom around the world we can see a more human, charismatic, simple, humble, funny and even vulnerable Shakira. The moments with her parents are lids are just heart melting and she's more open about her feelings than ever before.

All of those who went to any date of the tour could realice the excitement and still see a cinema fill with between timid shouts, applause and laughter.

Beyond disappointed

This tour is almost identical as her previous tour, from the arrangements of the songs, dance/dance breaks, adlibs and little things that aren't supposed to be a choreography or be repeated for a tour that took her so long to plan, and I know this because I own her "Live from Paris" dvd and I've watched it enough times to notice the similarities between them.

-she destroyed her greatest hits, she sang only part of her old school, most famous songs and decided to sing entirely her newest songs which I find unnecessary since her newest songs are repeatedly lyrics over and over (and let's be honest, majority of people like her old songs better) -she gave "underneath your clothes" (one of her greatest English songs lyrically speaking) some sort of a reggaetton twist and completely ruined the song. -this documentary is probably 40% of slow motion- close-up takes of her shaking her butt. -the good part of it is that includes clips such as of her rehearsing for the tour, with her family, and in the studio creating her new songs. However, there are parts where you can tell she's trying so hard to speak with Spaniard accent and it's kinda irritating (she uses it in some sentences and then goes back to Colombian accent and then goes back to Spaniard within the same conversation)

This time I wasn't able to attend the tour, and after watching this documentary I realized how glad I am I didn't make it to one, because if I had spend my money to watch almost the same thing as her previous tour but with her killing her greatest songs and replacing them with these reggaetton garbage I would've been very disappointed.
