Should be called "Dumb Luck Disqualifies the Usual Suspects"
kennbr20 May 2022
Here's how every episode goes in a nutshell:

Someone is killed Detectives immediately begin interviewing the usual suspects (boyfriend, ex-husband, ex-employee, etc.) The detectives go down the list until alibis, DNA evidence, surveillance footage, etc. Eventually rule out each "usual suspect" After they've wasted all that time and ruled out everyone on their suspect list they do a modicum of actual investigative work and end up finding the "unexpected killer", which actually translates to a completely unrelated and impossible-to-expect person

It really highlights the way investigators like to say everything is suspicious. Your timeline doesn't match what your friend says about the timeline? Suspicious. Your timeline DOES match what your friend says about the timeline? Suspicious. Eventually when everyone has a solid alibi--or my personal favorite, knows their rights and/or has an attorney--they move on, all the while wasting time trying to throw darts and make something stick. It's only until after all that is exhausted they do something simple like find a DNA sample, run it through a database, and find a suspect that wasn't on their radar at all. In the meantime, you get to watch investigators try to coerce false confessions out of innocent people.

Basically an unintentional expose into the stupidity and laziness of modern police investigations.

Imagine

How many more viewers this title would have if it did not have an electronic "music" track that doesn't in any way match the script and comes close to being classic water torture.

Distasteful.

The crimes that this program portrays are the most horrific thing anyone will ever go through. The families that are left behind hopefully never watch the reconstructions because frankly this style of filmmaking is distasteful, tacky and so very disrespectful. The "acting" while narrating horrendous events is amateur dramatics at its worst. Sometimes I watch the screen in utter disbelief and wonder how this ever got the go ahead to be screened. But yeah, entertainment/showbiz out of murder etc is going strong in this program. The music is absolutely horrendous. It's overly dramatic and loud, and does not match the script. But yeah, earn that money out of people's misery. Do the people who make programs like this have no moral compass? I suppose we would have to say no if this is what they broadcast because it's so utterly devoid of empathy, kindness or respect. Why is it so difficult to respect the people left behind in these situations and get them to say a few sentences when they're vulnerable and/or still in the depths of grieving no matter how long it's been since the event of them losing a loved one? Why does there have to be horrible, bad actors, disgraceful loud music, drama, drama, drama. Someone lost their life. Their LIFE. I know I'm wasting my breath because this garbage is what garbage people want. I fully imagine people in America watching this with a bucket of popcorn and a never ending supply of soda. Absolutely no shame and no conscience. Gross.
