Big disappointment. Unfortunately
Borszczuk9 February 2008
It was pretty fun to watch "Cialo" (Body) by the same team, as well as I found pretty entertaining to watch "Testosteron", which was showing intersex relation from male point of view. "Lejdis" (which comes from misspelled word "ladies") was advertised as female's "Testosteron times four". But they did not managed to deliver what they advertise (or they messed multiplicity with division). The movie is far too long and in fact is boring. There're some funny scenes and quotes but it nothing compared to it's (so called) precursor. So, if you liked "Testosteron" and expect the same fun on Ladies - forget it. The old saying reads you shall always avoid even sequels. So if you consider "Lejdis" to be "Teststeron 2" this seems to be quite true. Let's hope next sequels be any better (which ain't that hard after Lejdis). But, wait. We do not have any more sexes on the planet, do we?

If you get through cheesy beginning you'll get really nice movie
bartekfm26 June 2008
Well, that's true. I've seen both movies, the "precusor", Testosteron and now, Lejdies. I'm male and i find it quite hard to compare those two movies. Mostly because Testosteron was an adaptation of a play and here we have an independent, fresh screenplay.

The beginning of this movie is just horrible... Four spoiled, slutty bitches partying and cursing. Definitely the kind of movie i truly hate and despise. I really wanted to turn it off after a while, but, with help of my sister, i continued. And i do not regret it. It's worth too finish despite the fact that movie is a little longer than typical "romance/comedy" flick and it's 133m long. Sometimes funny, sometimes a little bit heart warming, but overall, a successful attempt of polish cinematography in following foreign (mostly overseas) mainstream. Very enjoyable for widen audience. No wonder it was such a box-office blockbuster.

Pretty awful picture of todays women
przemyslawjarosz24 September 2023
I went to see this one with big enthusiasm and anticipation after seeing Testosteron. Lejdis was supposed to be a female version / kind of follow up to Testosteron treating about men self reflecting on their lives and flaws and simplicity men are full of. All put in fun, not very offensive and well played form.

With Lejdis on the other hand what I saw in the cinema was an awful and disgraceful picture of modern women. Being brutal and fixed on unhealthy rivalry with men women are presented as bad and frustrated. Rarely funny and very vulgar. I was hoping to see something with intelligent humor and flow but ended up seeing violent and non-sophisticated flat storyline.

Too bad cause I like some actresses starring in Lejdis from other productions. This on unfortunately is very poor.

Nothing to do with Testosteron...
mlody3010 March 2008
And yet again people keep complaining that Lejdis didn't seem like Testosteron at all. And yet again I'm going to tell this: "It has nothing to do with Testosteron and it never meant to". All this confusion was due to the fact that the movie was broadly advertised as an answer to Testosteron from the female point of view. And that's it, no connotations, no similarities, just life from the opposite sex's viewpoint...

And the movie was so much funnier than T. (ok, this is the last time I'm mentioning the T. movie here). True, it was long but I looked at my watch for the first time after 2 hours, which is a good sign (isn't it). I was laughing really a lot and believe it was one of the best Polish comedies in the past few years - funny, light, funny, sometimes rude (but slightly) and above all FUNNY.

So do not miss out because you didn't like the ... (you know what title should come here, but I promised) movie or because your friends didn't like it. Go and check yourself!

Polish cinema reborn
robert-golebiewski10 February 2008
I am really glad I have seen this movie. My wife and her friend made me go to see this movie and I am happy to admit I am very positively disappointed. The plot is fine - no major flaws. Characters are well described. They simply live their lives. Despite of the fact you do not know what they do their living from. Most important issue they are not paper made. The emotions are very strong. As for workshop issues all seem to be fine: sound, pictures, editing. This could be a movie for everyone - not only Polish typical cuisine. With good translation even the Elnglish would have good fun of it. The movie feeds from "Fours weddings..." but with no clichés. I am glad this director works with these producers. I have read the interview with him planning "Monte Cassino" war movie of Polish victory during WWII. I would be crossing fingers for his success. He knows how to tell stories. This is very important.

P.S. Two points minus 10 for: 1. Borys Szyc - this character seems to be living his own life. It was forced correlation with "Testosteron". Some may like it. I did not. 2. Erwin Igor character - either flaw in casting or this actor is simply poor. I felt like watching a 5 year old telling his parts. 5 year olds were better.

Besides, all was fine. And I am happy. R

P.P.S. Some viewers may feel disappointed with the fact, that "Testosteron" connections so widely mareketed before the movie went to cinemas is rather vague. However I believe producers have no choice - Testosteron was quite a good movie coming from the same wokshop thus it seemed reasonable to catch attention of its fans.

Great Movie

If you did not like a so called "Testosteron" which was more then boring to me... then you going to love "Lejdis". Its funny, little dramatic, and running like a river all the way down to the end. You just will not be able to catch one breath. The end is more then a master piece and so much different from all others of this kind. I am not going to tell you why it is so cool because probably that would ruin all the fun.

The movie is mostly about friendship of four womens each one has different personality but all of them are common in specific way... what it is? What connect them? You have to see on your own. But I can bet that you will not be disappointed. I do not want to talk much more about the movie because I want to leave all the joy of watching to you.

One more thing... if you are "chauvinist male" do not even try it cause you probably get stroke or heart attack.

Four girlfriends who have know each other since childhood dealing with everyday problems - meaning men ;)
nina-30426 February 2008
I do not agree that this movie is worse than Testosteron. I believe that what's at stake here is gender. I've watched Testosteron with my boyfriend and he found this movie unbelievably hilarious. True, it was pretty entertaining but sometimes the jokes were so macho, I mean literally - testosterone was leaking down the screen. And as for Lejdis, it is not a masterpiece, it is supposed to be a pretty light entertainment movie but my mother and I we were laughing our heads off! My boyfriend was with us but he didn't have the same blast we did. So I think it pretty much proves my point about the gender stuff. It is true that certain female characteristics were exaggerated, some stereotypes strengthened but hey, all in all, if you ladies feel like relaxing - go see Lejdis! ;) Oh - pretty good soundtrack :)
