Ahead of the series premiere of Cross, Prime Video is already prepping a second season of the drama based on the best-selling Alex Cross book series by James Patterson. Wes Chatham (Ahsoka), Matthew Lillard (Good Girls) and Jeanine Mason (Upload) are set to star opposite lead Aldis Hodge in Season 2 of the series, created, executive produced and showrun by Hand of God‘s Ben Watkins, sources tell Deadline. Prime Video declined comment but all three are believed to have one-year deals.
From Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, Cross is a twisted thriller about Alex Cross (Hodge), a detective and forensic psychologist, uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers.

Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

The Curse of Oak Island team has begun excavating a new human-made circular stone feature in the swamp near Nolan’s Cross, which could be the spot where ancient Christian relics are buried.
This week’s episode started with disappointment. The rehabilitation and excavation of the Garden Shaft was the primary focus of this season, but it has been plagued with problems.
Dumas representatives informed Rick Lagina and the guys that approximately 479 gallons of seawater were currently gushing into the shaft, and pumping out such a quantity of water would make the whole structure unstable.
That means the project is on hold while the Dumas miners figure out what is the best option. Unfortunately, we are careering toward the end of the season, which sadly means that could be the end of the project for Season 11.

On The Curse of Oak Island this week, the team uncovers a brand new stone feature at the exact spot where an expert told them to dig for the Ark of the Covenant.
In recent weeks, researcher and symbologist John Edwards identified a couple of places along Nolan’s Cross where he believes Templar Knights have buried the Ark of the Covenant and possibly other ancient Christian artifacts.
John came to this conclusion after studying old books and documents that he believed used a cipher to reference the Ark, Oak Island, Templar Knights, and the Knight’s descendants in the Freemasons.
The researcher said that Nolan’s Cross was part of a bigger structure that marked a secret burial spot.
The guys wasted no time sending Billy Gerhardt and his digger into the area to investigate, and last week, he had already uncovered an unusually placed boulder. This week, Billy...

Consider this Thelma & Louise meets Jack Ryan.
Amazon, following an intensive bidding war, has landed the action-adventure show starring Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer with an eight-episode, straight-to-series order.
The untitled show is based on an original idea from Tessa Coates (Feel Good) that was taken out to six of the major streamers, four of which bought the show while in the room and with the others also making offers before Amazon emerged the victor, prompting the pitch to the seventh streamer to be canceled. The series was one of few new original scripted ideas that generated multiple offers in what many Hollywood insiders say has been an unusually quiet marketplace after the writers strike.
Ted Lasso Emmy winner Waddingham and The Help Oscar winner Octavia Spencer will star as best friends Judith and Debbie, respectively, who work to repair their friendship after Debbie learns Judith is a highly trained assassin.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS: Sydney Episode 4 “Ghosted.”] NCIS: Sydney offers a little insight into team leader Mackey (Olivia Swann) in the latest episode, with the investigation forcing her to open up about her past. While the team has someone in custody claiming he killed the victim, and Mackey is willing to believe it at first — she is very much against deserters, as Frank (Linal Haft) was after serving and receiving the Navy Cross — it soon becomes clear there’s more than it seems to the case. And so, in an attempt to get Frank to talk, Mackey reveals that while she was stationed in Afghanistan, three guys wandered off base and wound up in a village on the wrong side of the border. She disobeyed a direct order and with two others,...

The hype is real: Ali Ahmadzadeh’s “Critical Zone” (“Mantagheye bohrani”) has picked up the top Golden Leopard at Locarno.
It has been a bumpy ride for the film, set in Tehran over the course of one lonely night and described by the fest as “a hymn to freedom and resistance.”
As reported by Variety, Iranian authorities have been pressuring Ahmadzadeh to pull it from the Swiss festival – arguing it was shot without permission – and with the director himself banned from leaving the country.
“Instead of actors, I worked with real people. In most situations, we had to hide the camera or find complicated tricks to work around the limitations. Making this film was a big rebellion. Showing it means an even bigger victory for us,” said Ahmadzadeh in a statement, with Locarno’s artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro calling for his release.

The Land That Time Forgot: Vroda Mines Eroding Memories in Speculative Debut
Thomas Wolfe meant You Can’t Go Home Again metaphorically, but such might literally be the case for the denizens of a depleted Ukrainian countryside community in Maryna Vroda’s feature debut, Stepne. The project is a long-gestating one, as Vroda has been painstakingly working on the film for over a decade, announced shortly after she won the Palme d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for her short film Cross. Navigating a template which taps into neorealism as much as it does a docudrama, Vroda’s narrative saunters into more of a chronicling exercise of a disappearing culture than linear storytelling.…...

The Final Fantasy series is one of the longest-running and most successful RPG franchises in video game history. Square Enix (originally Squaresoft) has produced 16 main entries, as well as countless remakes and spin-offs. Most Final Fantasy games are one-and-done adventures, as their stories end once the credits roll (unless they receive Dlc or a sequel). To facilitate this sense of finality, every Final Fantasy entry ends with all questions answered and all loose plot threads tied up. Ok, not really. Almost had you going there, though.
Many Final Fantasy games contain design elements, story beats, and even thematic elements that are never fully answered, leaving fans to scrounge for answers. And whenever that happens, fan theories aren’t far behind. Gamers have the unearthly talent to comb through insane amounts of data and use even the tiniest bits of info, from obscure Npc dialogues to cut content, to extrapolate explanations.
