music is fantastic, film is a bit mad
aliwhitbread9 April 2008
I don't normally comment on music from movies but in this case the music by Raiomond Mirza was the best thing in it. It was an unusual blend of styles that just lifted the whole film and his songs were catchy and fun.

I didn't get what they were going for with anything else. There were some strange long boring bits that just should have been chopped down (two whole bollywood songs!), there were also loads of laughs that were missed and I just didn't get some parts of the story and dialogue which lurched about disjointedly.

They could also have used some real actors for the smaller roles but it was nice to see a film with heart that tried to reach for the stars. One or two bits were genuinely funny and heartwarming which is pretty good considering they don't seem to have had much of a budget.

I've seen many worse films that probably cost much more to make.

On the whole it's a fun loving chuckle.

Charming English Comedy
AnabelleChrighton11 April 2013
This film is a charming Bollywood romp in the style of the great days of the Ealing Comedies following Khurvinder Ghir (Alfie the would be film director) in his quest to follow his dream and get his film made. All the locations are set in and around Ealing, West London though strangely enough, the original Ealing Studios where the Ealing Comedies were produced, were not featured in the film The amusing story develops with Alfie meeting characters from the original Ealing Comedies, such as the Man in the White Suit. I really chuckled at the scenes between Khurvinder Ghir and Lucien Morgan. Lucien's portrayal of the bemused Welsh police officer was played with perfect comic timing. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film and recommend it. There are far too few original Britsh comedies made now.

Just not funny
jwhitham25 March 2008
Left after an hour, just not funny.

A couple of bits made me smile but not even close to a chuckle let alone a laugh.

The acting is very poor too. Considering it has some well know TV people in it.

About 3 of the 20 or so people in the cinema were laughing at the awful and over predicable attempts at jokes but quite a few also left before I did.

Very disappointing, gives British films a bad name.

That's all I have to say really but you need to make ten lines to count as a submission.

And I don't want to waste the time I spent coming up with five.

It's quite annoying really as I almost just threw the review away as I couldn't come up with more.

worst film i have ever seen
doyle2219 March 2008
I have never written anything on the internet before but i just cant help myself. I saw this film last night and I was stunned at how poor it was. you that feeling that someones pulling your leg and your reaction is being filmed for utube or something. My wife though the beginning was a typical advert for orange or something and the real film would start soon. It is a truly awful film we sat at the front and didn't realise till the end that most of the audience had walked out. with the title ealing you thought you were in for true British quality but alas NO! the quality of the film is poor like some copy you got of a dodgy car boot. the acting was dire. who sat at the screening of this and said OK we,ll put it out. This does British film no favours at all. You could use it as a party game and see who lasts the longest i guess. Awful truly awful......

Heart-warming film that wears it rough edges on its sleeve
eymikbc28 March 2008
This is a heart-warming film. It's low budget and it shows its rough edges, but its warm spirit comes through if you give it a chance.

It's a family film and centres on a man chasing his dream and how his family have to put up with it. It's a family film and it's set in a real London.

It kept a smile on my face the whole time. It's such a feel good film. It's a very English comedy. It's full of interesting, quirky characters and it deals with its story with tongue-in-cheek wit. Alfie is a pathetic father but you warm to him as the story progresses.

It's definitely not a perfect film, but it's a refreshing break from the superficial, sickly-sweet American stodge you see every week at the cinema. It's a fun, rough slice of British life with plenty of charm.

Solid film for a quiet night in.
killer_conan8810 July 2009
All round decent, wholesome film. British independent film-making on a seemingly-minute budget and the results are rather impressive all things considered.

Great performance from Kulvinder Ghir and wonderful appearance from Alistair McGowan, partnered with some great music and beautiful camera-work in places.

Great to see some small British films out there and unfortunately missed this one in the cinema. Very nice multi-cultural aspect as well as minor moral issues touched upon.

Rented it from my local Blockbuster would recommend for someone who is looking for a fun film instead of a serious Period Drama.

A Low Budget Triumph!
dammy_boy1 June 2008
I've just been reading some of these comments, and I have to totally disagree with many of them. Many people are only expecting these trashy American-style gross-out comedies which are rife at the moment. Clearly many of us have forgotten the original British humour! Sure the film is not a visual masterpiece, but what can one expect from a film to is one of the lowest budget to ever get a nationwide cinematic release! If you are going to watch it, just don't look for it's faults and be critical, enjoy it for what it is, a throw back to those feel-good comedies that we all loved, with a bit of drama thrown in.

The acting is not dire, as some may suggest, with Ghir and Mcgowan sharing a gloriously funny scene together. As well as seeing some of Britain's most loved talents, it is wonderful to see some fresh faces. The musical score is also beautifully put together by Mr. Mirza.

So am giving this a high rating for what it is, a low budget comedy which punches well above it's weight and I truly recommend it to someone who watches films from all over the world, not just those who expect every film to be like those main-streamers out there.

A truly British feel-good laugh!
