Thoughtful wonderful film
roboshea3 November 2008
This film shows the writer John McGahern as he goes about his business both in Leitrim and in Tokyo visiting. The sight of this writer, a country gentleman of the old school, in his tweeds on the train in Tokyo with Hello Kitty schoolgirls is priceless.

Wonderful gems of wisdom fall from him, about life, writing, and art.

He discusses his father and mother, despairing of one and adoring of the other. There's real insight here from the director, bringing up the truth of his life with nothing more than gently being with him.

A lovely film and on a wonderful subject. The director is to be congratulated on his achievement, true empathy.
