Did No One Notice This was the Plot of WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION?
foosie-224 June 2017
I came to this series very late, after reading over and over how funny William Shatner was with James Spader. I got hooked on it right away and felt sorry when it was over to lose the wit and intelligence and bizarre plot twists. But this episode was clearly a New Millennia version of that old Agatha Christie chestnut WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, where the wife of a man accused of murder allows herself to appear vindictive and out to frame him, when in fact she loves him so much, she's willing to go to jail for perjury. And the lawyers in that old film have the wool pulled over their eyes, just as these Crane, Poole & Schmidt attorneys were fooled.

Interesting Twists and Double Crosses

Warning: Spoilers
I often wonder why Boston Legal is categorized as a drama and not a comedy. With its quirky characters and often inane subplots, BL is often more funny than dramatically compelling. "True Love" forced me to rethink this attitude about the show. In it, Alan and Denny are defending a prominent doctor who is accused of murdering his young mistress. The doctor just happens to be married to lawyer Phoebe Prentiss, Alan's ex whom he is still carrying a torch for. When Alan tells Phoebe that her alibi story is a little less than convincing, Phoebe states under oath that her husband left the house on the night of the murder and did not return until 3 AM. Be sure to watch to the very end of the episode as there is a mother of a twist. And prepare to be surprised by the fact that Alan Shore, one of the most cunningly unethical lawyers ever to appear on television gets taken for a ride.

Guilt By Association Obscured by a Flame

Warning: Spoilers
This episode gets back to the true roots of lawyer series as there is only one case here & it gets the full show to be presented. This format is like EG Marshalls series The Defenders in the 1960's as for once the Defendent is guilty but fakes their way to an innocent verdict.

Alan Shore is used here by his former love that he still loves. Shore is brilliant in how he pleads the case, much less adjusts his defense when he get surprised on the stand. Overall the drama here takes a front seat with the comedy in the back ground though there is enough humor to catch the viewer off guard and the humor is directly related to the shows actions. This is a very good episode.

What a Crock!

The writer's rip off Witness for the Prosecution and sell it as their own. If Alan Shore is anything, he is intuitive. I know he was in love with this woman but come on. He would have seen these antics a mile away. When she testified and dropped the bomb, he should have known, not look like the innocent puppy. And as for her being arrested. She should have been. Even if she had to fess up, there isn't a judge in the land that wouldn't issue a warrant for her arrest.
