The Executive AKA the consummate BS artist. "Why does love die?" asks Mitch Wolfe in the titular role. For love to flourish, there must be no BS. But there is a river of BS in "The Executive." However the film is hilarious, spoofs everyone including the lead character. Wolfe is billed as the next Frances Ford Coppola. Not exactly believable when he says "invest in me and you'll get it all back." Wolfe is the consummate salesman. He could sell rat poison to a rat. Wolfe says he gets his most brilliant thoughts in the morning, usually when his character most wants to get it on with women. Yes he's delusional but spoofs himself and we laugh because he does so hilariously. The Executive: 10/10

The Executive - funny and heartfelt

The Executive is the latest film by my friend Mitch Wolfe . Just watched it, and it is great! Low key, heartfelt and funny. Shades of Larry David, but more Canadian!
It all starts with a veal sandwich and twists on from there. At one point his best friend wants to go to rehab, and Mitch's character asks if that can wait til tomorrow........because he has a date!
Do take a look at The Executive - you may well love it. You did, didn't you Merle A Jacobs ?

"The Executive" Is The Feel Good Movie of the Year!

This movie blew me away. I could not stop laughing.
The characters were so well cast. The dialogue was smart,
funny and above all- very natural. The "take no prisoners', ballsy
Joanne character stole the show. Her reactions to the Mitch Wolfe character
were priceless and hysterical. The Mitch Wolfe/Franco the Baker bromance
was at times warm, competitive, sweet and confrontational. Like most real
friendships. This movie was very entertaining. It should be viewed multiple
times.

The Executive is a Comedic yet Delusional Spin on Mitch Wolfe
rinara-3953016 September 2020
The Executive", is a comedic yet delusional love struck spin of the behind the scenes making of various films starring "The Executive", the Mitch Wolfe character. If you have not seen the tv series, " Wingmen", The Executive would be a 'good' start, then roll onto Wingmen for the full roller coaster "unscripted" totally improvisational and engaging story of Mitch Wolfe and his gang. On a deeper level, I found that Franco the "baker" had a love hate-like relationship with Mitch, which made me glued to the screen for more. Another addition to my review is that I was amazed at how raw-like all these characters came into play through-and-through, though the "Wolfe" came out the strongest.
I love Mitch!

The Executive, TIFF, by Mitch Wolfe - Why Does Love Die..?
jameswmacfarlane18 September 2020
'The Executive' is the perfect Prequel within a Sequel, following up and leading into 'Wingman'... Featuring self-styled Mitch Wolfe fantasizing an affair within an affair while desperately trying to have an affair... yet ever missing the elusive love for which he urgently blatantly and pathetically seeks...
A humorous multi-dimensional approach to egotistical bias, perception distortion and confusion harbored and nurtured in navigating the maze of non-Hollywood film making... a comedic artistic quest, often crossing between self-edification and projected reality. Confounding his image of love with the essence of the real thing. In the end, as always, real life prevails and egos, fantasies and dreams yield to the harsh pains of real life and complexities of dealing with real people instead of fantasies... as the fragile illusions of sustainable love that must pivot and focus on the lovee and not the lover... A lesson within a lesson nested in a film within a film within a film.
Delusional, a director/producer who has lost his way, trying too hard to engineer what he wants and needs to find... A dual plot following the perils and pitfalls of life personified through the manipulated imperfections of 'Franco the Baker', 'Mild Ricky' and company... While allowing tunnel-vision from stereotypical self-imaging to deprive the emotional investment to captivate and sustain any kind of meaningful love and affirmation he so frantically and naïvely seeks on so many levels. This is why love dies...
8/10 - enjoy

Surprise!
judy-a22 September 2020
The Executive: well worth the rough, darkly hilarious, and often poignant roller coaster ride of the larger than life kaleidoscope of authentic, wounded characters, all chasing some always receding rainbow. Mitch Wolfe is very convincing as the frenetic-"You talk too much. You swallowed a radio"-eponymous, wheeler dealer executive. Much to my surprise, mover and shaker Mitch Wolfe sometimes tugged at my heartstrings.
Is this real??

Watching this film allows the viewer to fully become involved in the peregrinations of Mitch the protagonist who being always on the make whether professional or personal exhibits a softer emotional private mien which this film advances able.
Humour and angst in parallel is illustrated in one unique moment -the bathroom sauna scene with Mitch and his overweight male cohort being a periscope most delicious visceral.
This film by Mitch Wolfe I recommend for one explicit reason.
No one is perfect as we all are flawed creatures in collective humanity.
Enjoy this cinematic experience in the tasting of food along with ad hoc female companionship.
Living the good life can be measured in savouring the good life however beware there will be a personal cost extracted as this film illustrates.
I encourage the audience to Enjoy this cinematic experience as "The Executive" raises an ordinal question which you the viewer need resolve concerning your personal professional ethos.

You can't look away! It's like watching Larry David and a reality show all in one. Very funny, very real and very brave. Mitch pushes the boundaries and succeeds. Shots of Toronto are also amazing. Makes me miss my city.
THE EXECUTIVE: WHERE THE JOURNEY BEGINS
gwbellinger25 September 2020
The film, The Executive, is a poignant and Lomanesque prequel to the often brooding and noir touched film Wingman. This film should be viewed before Wingman as it sets the journey of Wolfe on its spiraling way.
Touched with light comedic and poignant scenes it nevertheless brushes lightly with the human experiences of friendship, love and aloneness.
Franco and Wolfe play wonderfully off each other in what are the finest acting moments in both films. There are hints in their dialogues and physical mannerisms of a bewilderment to their existence and place: Godot-like clowns set amongst the glitz of a modern and facile world.
Unlike many film series The Executive succeeds in firmly anchoring the films; creating a movie experience that reaches beyond their singular identities.

It was fun watching the characters get, well, more and more into character...
Seeing Mitch gradually become aware - to say nothing of somewhat self-aware - was a hoot. The numerous mis-communications (both with women and with men) that just seem to take on a life of their own were really well done.
Might be life imitating art, imitating life...
