Exceptional Film - Needs To Be A Feature

Wow! This really is an exceptionally well-made film based on a unbelievable true story. It delivers multiple important social messages while being very entertaining from beginning to end. They've done something very difficult in covering many layers and sub-plots in such a short time, but they pulled it off with flying colors. The tempo is perfect and smooth and I was engaged from the very first second of the opening scene. I've seen the film 3 times and 2 key scenes made me cry every time. The film resonated with me personally and struck a few emotional cords. The writing and directing is clearly excellent. And when you add a very talented cast (every character is played spectacularly - well done to the casting director) and outstanding editing, it becomes the film it is - gripping and great. I also really liked the score, original songs and sound design on this film. I just found out the songs were nominated for Grammys (not surprised). Thank you to the writers, director, producers, the great cast and anyone connected to this exceptional film for making it and for dedicating it to the memory of Megan (the victim of bullying the film is based on). Now go make the feature version! You have left me wanting more of the story. 5 stars, 10 out of 10, A+.

Saw this film during the London Film Festival this week and had to write a quick review. It's an astonishing film which resonated with me. If you've ever been bullied or been in a position where other people have been the cause of your depression or degradation of your mental health, this film will likely hit you hard. It's a subject and story delicately turned into a film by Paul James and I'm in ore of his accomplishment. There is some language in the film but I think it is necessary to accurately define the characters. Teens curse, bad teens curse more. Congratulations to Paul and everyone who helped make this important and relevant film. It's a great achievement and you should all be proud.

Such An Important Film!

This film is so incredibly important! In today's technologically-advanced world bullying doesn't just stay in the school yard... it follows these young people everywhere. Not only was the acting, direction, script & score fantastic, but the message is one that needs to be heard by everyone! This film gives me hope that one day we'll live in a world with more empathy. I hope it continues to open the hearts of many!

True story, GREAT movie.

This movie is based on a really sad true story. But it is how the movie is made and delivered that makes it capable of bringing on the tears. I love how deep the story is and the links between the characters. You can really see the cause and effect of bullying and abuse throughout. Yes it is very sad, but it also kept me on the edge of my seat. It's really good and interesting and I can't remember when a movie last moved me in so many different ways. The acting is amazing and I was honestly surprised to see such flawless performances in every role. The lead actress is great and I really liked the performances by the main bully (Luc) and his brother (Chris). The female bully was also really good. As was her mom (I think this is Rachel Aleg - very scary and sinister) - she really delivers in the role. Watch this movie, it's short but really is worth it. I love this movie and it has changed me.

amazing actors/actresses and amazing message!!

This film is so important in a world where anything can be photoshopped, edited, etc., to portray someone in a certain way. Although it is only 15 minutes, it will bring you to tears and remind you to think before messaging/posting when hiding behind a screen. The effects of bullying are traumatizing to the victims, families, friends, and community. This film is extremely well done in a respectful way of the true story it is based off of.

Eye Opening

The film is based on real life events and shows the dangers of cyberbullying. The internet has made bullying even easier and the bullies do not see the damage they are causing to the person at the other end. In the film, the main character Clare is bullied in person and online to the point where she takes her own life. It is never easy to tell the story of a such a traumatizing event, but director Paul James does a masterful job with handling the sensitive topic.

A chilling true story masterfully directed by Paul James. The performance of the lead actress is incredibly memorable and her facial expressions will remain imprinted in my mind for a while! It has been a while since a movie, especially a short film, left me this touched, leaving the theatre with lingering thoughts of what I've just experienced. Not to mention the cinematographer has done an incredible job. Both with lighting as well as selection of angles and detailed shots bringing us closer to the emotional state of the characters. The story itself is incredibly touching and I believe it should turn into a feature.

A tragic but must-watch film.

A friend highly recommended I see this short film at the end of 2021 and I have to say I was completely blown away. It is very strong as a fictional drama/suspense/thriller with some twists and parallel stories but the fact it's all based on a terrible true incident gives it that something extra you look for in a film. The acting is really good and the lead actress gave me chills and a solid lump in my throat. I found the bullying scene tough to watch because it was so real and so well acted by all 3 of the teen actors. The dialogue is perfect and raw and I found the writing to be brilliant. I watched it a couple of times just to dissect the script because the whole film just felt so smooth. All the characters contributed something to the story and to the messages in the story. But the messages don't smother the film. Instead they compliment the film superbly. After I watched the film, I talked about it with my friend who recommended it and we tried to pinpoint the reason it's so good. But there are lots of reasons. It is well-balanced, well-directed, well-acted, and most importantly, well-written. And with a really great story. The attention to detail is also something to commend. We also agreed the characters are very relatable, as are many of the situations. Let the messages seep in but while you watch this film for the entertaining experience and powerful piece it is. We absolutely loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A poignant & necessary film, tackling the difficult subject of the horrifying evolution of modern bullying & the destructive possibilities of internet anonymity. This film tells the devastatingly true story of a young girl who tragically saw no feasible way of ending the torment she endured, with painful consequences. A difficult watch, although a vital story to be told.

The creative team have utilised the style of a teen drama, whilst honouring the truth and sincerity needed to tell a true story of this magnitude. This 16 mins film carries an important message, that this watcher hopes is heeded by those who need to hear it.

An extraordinary and unforgettable masterpiece

'Under the Bridge' is a beautifully told, heart wrenching true story about the trials and tribulations of being a teenage girl. Exploring the horrors of high school hierarchy, Clare finds herself a victim of her peers; but is soon to find refuge in an online chat forum. This film is beautifully acted, with a special mention to Piper Reese who perfectly captures the anguish and desolation of being a victim of bullying. Paul James Houghton is a masterful director and writer, who accurately and thoughtfully approaches a delicate subject. This film truly is a must watch with its expert storytelling and crucial message.

Really heartbreaking but true story. Unfortunately, today's reality! Bullying is everywhere especially between teenagers, even really really young ages. The message has to be heard by everyone! Schools and families have to take actions for bullying and be aware of this issue.

I saw this movie during London Lift-off Film Festival and really loved it. So touching and tragic true story. Everyone must be aware of this truth. This movie needs to be a feature! Because it helps to raise awareness for bullying.

Not only the message is so important but also acting, directing was amazing! Congratulations to Paul James Houghton and the whole crew! You've made must-watch movie.

Impressive, Raw, Real, Direct

I really like films, but I LOVE films based on real stories and important subjects. This has everything. And when I heard it was the directors first film directing, I had to give them a nod of approval. It has a graphic and true cyberbullying story at its center but also manages to include other bully victim stories too. For example, the more physical side of bullying. I recently read a review on this film and the dude didn't get why the brother's scene is important -- to help that reviewer -- IT SHOWS ABUSE OFTEN HAS A TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT! AND IT ALSO SHOWS YOU CAN CHOOSE TO STEP IN AND STOP ABUSE IF YOU SEE IT HAPPEN! And this is one of the amazing things about the film. There are so many subtle messages tagging along with the in-your-face points. Watch closely and you will see how the script highlights when people have the chance to do something but don't, the trickle-down effect of abuse, bullying, cyberbullying, the importance of communication and so on. It's very clever, excellent writing and so real and raw. For those of you who might be wondering, YES THIS IS HOW BAD BULLYING CAN BE. Parents take notice. Great film.

Leaves you wanting more

The film is very good. All the actors are talented and sell the story. The writing is A+++ and I was left wanting more. Which is not always the result with a short story or film. But as is often the case with a short film, you can never be sure if the longer story will ever be made. I wanted to know more about all the characters because the writer has done such a top job in developing them here. I counted 8 total characters and they all have potential and interesting back stories. And there seems to be more to offer in the overall story too.

Will we get to experience all that is left on the table? That's the question. And probably one for the writer, who clearly has the imagination and talent to get it done. I gave it 8 stars but 10 stars if this is just the taster for a longer film. Congratulations to the actors. Top marks for the writer.

BEST festival film by far

For a short film it is full of layers and drama but the script makes sure everything ties in nicely. The characters and lines are so so real and well written and the acting is astonishing for a short film. The bullies played by Luke Clopton and Sarah Wolfkind are eerily accurate and Piper Reese's portrayal of the victim made me sob. But I have to say the whole cast is tremendous.

I saw the film in Michigan in September at a film festival - it was the best film by far. I have never written a review but the power in this film and the way it caused me to sob uncontrollably compelled me to write one. It was very personal for me but it's also a really well made film. And it should be shown in schools everywhere.

When you watch this amazing film and realize it is based on a true story, you'll be floored. It's sooooooooo good. No, really, it is. As someone who has been in a similar situation being cyber bullied by a fake person, this gave me goosebumps. It also does a great job at showing how abuse and bullying trickles down from one victim to another. And the realistic shock factor is what makes the story a great film. Like someone else said the acting IS amazing. Everyone should watch this film.

Goose Bumps - Must See Bullying Awareness Film

We saw this film at Dances With Films (when it won best film) and again on the internet through another film festival. It gave me goosebumps both times. Although i was not bullied badly at school, which is to say I was bullied but not to the extreme level of some, my best friend was bullied very much in school for being 'different'. And by 'different', I mean he wanted to be on stage performing from a young age (now a great and famous actor). Yep, not exactly worth bullying someone about but there you go. It happens all the time. This film and the related clips online (see the bullying stories told by the actors) reminded me of his stories. He was bullied by people in person and on the internet, including someone who made a fake social media profile so they could abuse him anonymously. This film ignites the empathy I have had, and have for him. And when we watched it together, we talked afterwards for a long time about those days, the bullies, the film's accuracy and how things are now. In our lives and in the world of social media. This film is so good. It can make you uncomfortable with the reality, emotional with the story and events, and inspire you to try to change the world. If not, at least be kinder to others. Thank you for making this film and for doing it so very well.

So good, we all cried.

I watched -- From Under The Bridge -- today online with my family. We all cried. I think for different reasons. My sister was bullied as a child and the film really got to her. I have been bullied at work and i connected with the film in lots of ways. Especially with the subtle way it showed people not doing anything about the bullying when they could - this was well done. My brother and dad got teary. They said because the film was just that good -- and it really is. Then we had to look into it more online. I don't want to spoil things for others so let me just say this -- kudos to the writer-director -- you deserve serious recognition for this film. For me it's perfect -- and I think my whole family agrees. Tip: Watch it on a bigger screen (not a computer) -- you will get more out of the cinematography -- which is great.

What a powerful story!

I watched the film during the Lift Off Film Festival and it hit me hard. It was even more shocking to know that the story was real. Bullying has always been there but even more harsh these days where social media takes over majority of our lives. I also like how they picture narcissist parenting in a subtle way. It shows us bullies can be in all ages and can hide themselves behind their social status or roles such as 'parent'. I definitely saw a few of them hiding behind motherhood/ fatherhood or event teacher. This movie is powerful and showing a real experience for teens. Thanks for creating such an impactful short film.

INCREDIBLE!

If you've ever been bullied or cyber bullied, if you've ever been contacted by someone online pretending to be someone they are not, you will totally get this film. WARNING - it will stir up feelings if the aforementioned is the case. Cuz it's as freaking real as it gets. Dunno if the writer has been bullied or not but they nailed the speach and the actions. The characters talk the talk like bullies do and it feels very real. The bullying scene in the park really got to me. The actors made sure of that! Damn they are good! And the bro in the bar is brutal! I've been bullied and I've a bully and the film shows how this can happen. Amazing film. You guys got this totally right.

Important Story, Heartbreaking Reality

Epic first shot that hooks you in right away. Important message to be shared as widely as possible. Bullying, mental health, addiction, despression, and suicide are topics that we need to be talking about. I was really impressed with the cinematography that pulls you into this very tragic story of a teenage girl who is lost in grief, in love, in the torments of vicious bullies, both in her day-to-day life, at school, in the park, even in what she considers to be a safe space, her home. It's truly devastating to see that this movie is based of real events and that a person had to go to the irreversible place to feel safe or seen. I hope more films get made with such a strong social purpose.

An outstanding film with an important message.

The film was incredibly done with excellent acting and cinematography. Me and my son agreed that the films message was important as it showed how things can rapidly escalate with the bully's mothers actions whilst under the influence of alcohol. The acting of the father and the neighbour were also great as they showed how the people really cared for. The actors managed to evoke great emotional responses in the whole audience and received an applause from the whole audience. Films like this need to be more common, spreading an important message to as many people as possible. We found it shocking that bullying happens to one in five students. Its unbelievable that its based on a true story. The director did so well by covering so many different topics and stories throughout the performance with the actors manging to really put emphasis on the emotions caused by the bullying.

A truly heartbreaking but necessary watch.

Highlighting the dangerously toxic cycles of unresolved trauma, of how the bullied becomes the bully, and the devastating effects that targeted bullying can have on a vulnerable young teen.

From Under The Bridge is beautifully and sensitively directed, seamlessly interlinking the lives of both the bullied and the bullies to tell this incredibly sad story. The young actors do a great job in bringing these nuanced characters to life, and the film leaves a lasting impact through its poignant message. I believe that this film is doing important work through the telling of this story.

From Under The Bridge will probably live in film festivals for a while but it needs to be accessible by everybody. The attributes needed for a film to be good + memorable are all in place. It grips you immediately and doesn't let go. The bits about the dangers of bullying and suicide are carefully and precisely woven in but don't monopolize the film. Clever to make the social media website in the film lead you to the actual film website. Bravo! Usually it's only the big studios who plan for this sort of thing. I definitely recommend this film. A solid 9/10 for me. It was great.

A powerful true story bringing attention to an important topic. The subject matter of this film can be a tricky one but the film deals with it with care, truth and integrity with beautiful performances throughout.

The film follows and beautifully interlinks the lives of several characters each with their own struggles accumulating in a tragic ending. Throughout the film there is a sensitivity along with shocking moments and twists carefully crafted by Paul James-Houghton's brilliant writing. An incredibly touching story and a film that should be watched by all. Congratulations to all involved on a wonderful film.
