There is nothing more important to Normani Kordei than family.
This is evident as soon as you speak with her, but it was especially on her mind when Et chatted with her on Monday, just two days after she participated in her first breast cancer walk, American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K, in Santa Monica, California.
This was no ordinary stroll for the Fifth Harmony singer -- she was surrounded by breast cancer survivors, including her mom, Andrea Hamilton.
"The event was incredible. It was one of the best experiences and most memorable that I've had. It was honestly so surreal, exhilarating, exciting, emotional -- just a range of different emotions and feelings, because it's a cause so dear to my heart and close to me and my family because of our experience, my mom going through breast cancer," Kordei tells Et. During a break from filming, the 27-year-old actress, best known for playing Sierra on Shameless, called Et on the phone, where she explained her journey from childhood to Hollywood.
Many of Ruby's fans know her father, Matthew Modine, who's starred in films and TV shows like Full Metal Jacket, Birdy, The Dark Knight Rises and Stranger Things. But many aren't as familiar with her Puerto Rican mother, Caridad Rivera, a makeup and wardrobe stylist.

John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer, days after he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot above his eye.
The 2008 Republican presidential nominee’s office and the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, released a statement on Wednesday evening revealing the diagnosis.

My love for both Asian films and martial arts began more than two decades ago, with my earliest memories originating when I experienced the legendary Bruce Lee on the small screen. I was about five years old or so at the time, but even then, I knew this man on television was special. He emanated an aura from within that burned brightly, and by doing so, he was able to reach out to people all across the world, transcending boundaries regardless of race or gender.
The way he moved, his swagger, attitude, and physique made it impossible for me to turn my eyes away.I may not have been sure of what exactly was happening on the television screen in front of me, or why he was fist-fighting these men, but that did not matter because I was full of curiosity and wonder; not to mention, he sure looked badass and cool doing it.

Long live Michael Laughlin. Two years after he released one of my favorite early ‘80s oddities, Strange Behavior (I wrote about it here), he was back to unleash the next chapter in a proposed ‘Strange’ trilogy, Strange Invaders (1983). And while the former is a tribute to Mad Scientist films of the ‘50s via an updated Slasher take, the latter tips its fedora to the great Alien Invasion films of the same era. It may not reach the same dizzyingly weird heights, but Strange Invaders is an affectionate romp that captures the feel of those bygone drive-in classics and solidifies Laughlin’s unique voice.
A co-production between Emi Films and Lone Wolf McQuade Associates, Strange Invaders was released by Orion Pictures in mid September stateside to positive reviews and lackluster box office. Returning only a quarter of its $5 million plus budget, this was the Way of the Laughlin – everyone liked his movies,...

There is no doubt that the Brazilians have established themselves as some of the greatest creative minds in the world and therefore, it is no surprise that there was such a large Brazilian presence at this year’s Berlinale film festival. One of the most effective ways to raise social and political awareness is by the means of news, social media and especially films. Director Felipe Braganca has done just that with his first feature film, Don’t Swallow My Heart Alligator Girl.
The film tells the story and struggles of teenage love between a Brazilian boy and Paraguayan native Guarani girl, both caught between the violent conflict and continuous bloodshed on their respective borders. It was truly a pleasure speaking with Felipe and delving deeper into indigenous history in Brazil and South America. I hope this film will enlighten the world and perhaps bring some change...

This morning (I prep my stuff on Tuesday) I flicked on my Facebook feed to see a pair of news stories — real ones — that caused me to sincerely take pause. The first was vapid enough: Internet D-Lister Tila Tequila sieg heils at an Italian eatery. The second one, a bit less oh who cares, denoted that a room full of white nationalists (a.k.a. “The Alt-Right,” a.k.a. fucking Nazi Klansmen) had a conference ending with their leading ideologue declaring that Jews may be “soulless golem” amongst a litany of other unabashed hate-speech. For the first time in the wake of the presidential election, I actually took a breath to be floored — save only for Tuesday the 8th when Donald Trump was declared the winner of the highest office in our nation.
And my only thought that came into focus was… Where’s Superman?
